I normally dislike those "repeat gameplay" kinds of games, but this game really is an exception, I kept having fun and came back for more no matter what with this game, even tough I suck at it (You're a master at it compared to me Mark.) I think it has something to do with the upbeat music and the fact that I dont have to wait around to try again.

That is true, casual gamers are a source of money, but in contrast to that if you look at a game like Magic the Gathering and how much it's grown in the past few years, it's a game that's attracted people through good game design, not by changing what it was.

Glad to see Mark doing PC reviews, and the intro does show a computer as well! Anyway I did play this game and complete it, so I can definitely vouch for recommending this game. Tight controls, silly cutscenes, and a rewarding gameplay. The difficulty isn't too bad as it seems, the developers did a good job on trying to balance a rewarding feeling when finishing the levels and to give a bit of a healthy and beatable challenge. I hope Mark beat the game, as he said, it's trial and error.

But in those times, pretty much every game was challenging, even if it was a Disney game. It's the other way around now a days. So getting games branded for "hardcore players" makes me happy.

oh i knew that, but i just meant the style of the platformer. they look similar in that the characters are both extremely small, and there are tons of obstacles that will kill you every time, as well as extremely gory deaths.

i meant the format in controlling a small character, jumping over stuff, and having a million things that can kill you in the levels.

I'll illustrate this with just one game. Good Tetris according to me: As time passes, difficulty increases until it becomes unbeatable. Good Tetris according to you: Difficulty never changes. If there's no challenge, there's no sense of progression, and no "reward" for trying to do better. As simple and monotonous as Tetris is, it's addicting - it always has you coming back for more, precisely because of the "sense of progress" bit. Would it be like that with static difficulty, you say?

@WitheredRoseMusic11 жыл бұрын
You have to understand, format and genre are two different things. In this case, the genre of the game is platformer. But the format is running around in a level where a million things can kill you. (Or as I like to call it, the IWBTG format).

Two monitors - any professional in the field will either have two monitors or at least one 1440p monitor as it helps increase productivity. Laptop - again with that sort of career, a laptop would be required as you are expected to be able to work while travelling HDTV - TVs have been HD for about 10 years, not only could the TV have been old, but you can pick up a cheap 40 inch LED or Plasma for less than the price of a smartphone. And I'm fairly sure he was eating at a fast food restaurant,

I'm going to let people who are needlessly arguing over hardcore and casual in on a little secret. This game is not for everyone. Some people will like the game just because it's hard as nails. Some will be charmed by the game's sense of humor, music, and stellar gameplay to make up for it's difficulty. Some will be repulsed by it's difficulty. That being said I love this game to death, but that doesn't mean you're wrong for not liking. I know there are other games the masses love that I hate.

That's like saying a music producer who owns 2 monitors, a rack of effects, and 3 guitars isn't poor. When you put your heart and soul into your craft, that's ALL you have. So he has that stuff, he needs it to do what he does. My guess is that he really doesn't have much else. you clearly haven't experienced the brutality of the real world yet
@yohnazo11 жыл бұрын
Aye, agreed ^^ But of course there are some very well designed casual games, this is where it starts getting confusing lol I've been playing Rayman Origins lately, well designed, beautiful graphics, but still a game that most people can play.

I'd personally say that Blizzard are more to blame for that, not the people who play WoW. companies do have that temptation to make money, but there can be a thin line between making a game out of passion and a game out of greed. One of the most useful things to cater to different audiences, which some developers seem to forget about, are difficulty levels. Though i'd rather just build a game how I like rather than worrying about who is skilled enough to play it, like super meat boy.

I know I've said the same thing about other reviewers but like for CGR reviews? He mostly says nice things about the games he plays. Being usually quite fair. It's a pretty honest opinion most of the time and I would find it hard not to respect fully. Most reviewers in general are either holding their tongue so they stay in favor with publishers. Or are overly critical just for it's own sake. Hence the grain of salt. They aren't observing it from our perspective.
@Trancemaster205211 жыл бұрын
I haven't played this game before but it looks frustrating as hell. I like a good challenge however this looks like a nightmare to get through. Kind of split on whether or not to get this game. Sort of reminds me of the challenge associated with games like Outland and Limbo...only way harder.

Hey mark. Huge fan of the show. I know you wouldn't usually do something like this, but would you be willing to review a flash game? It has a similar aesthetic style to an original game-boy game, and is quite an interesting puzzle platformer. The name of the game is Tower of heaven. To this day, I'd have to say that it's one of the best flash game's I've played. If you do try it, I hope you enjoy it.
