All the Tecmo Super Bowls were great, but something about the NES versions that make them stand above the rest.

I love this series; still play it to this day, albeit for the NES & SNES. Last year, I picked up the rare "Tecmo Super Bowl II: Special Edition". Good game, although the first down lines aren't indicated in any way, the CPU goes for two much too often (especially since this game covers 2 out of 3 seasons in which going for 2 wasn't an option) and when the ball is intercepted there is no indication of who the defender is. But the gameplay is there, and that's what matters.

Neotechnician You'd be surprised. I don't really game that much anymore but I have friends who have at least 600 online games of Madden 15. That's pretty hardcore. I don't even know how they find time for it. NBA 2K is a pretty hardcore sports game as well. When people are lining up outside to buy games at 12 midnight that pretty much speaks for itself...

Im not American so yeah not into NFL but this game looks simple and fun. Personally i liked the NHL games of the 90's, those games were so fun and a good laugh when you put people through the glass lol. Bought a PS2 version about 10 years ago and it sucked, nothing beats the 90's NHL games. Although NBA Jam and NBA live were also great

Loved the Tecmo bowl games on the NES but I also love modern sports games. Ok, maybe not Madden, I haven't bought that in about 4 years. I mostly play MLB The Show for PS4. I like the simulation aspect of it since I want to play the game how baseball should really be played.

Im from New Zealand, we play rugby so NFL is sorta unknown. But i got an NES emulator and played Tecmo Super Bowl and its one of the greatest games ever. Its not a game you master and win every game 42-0. So many variables thrown in, like the condition of your players and the opposition. My fav team has always been New Orleans, so i usually pick them in the game, you can be on fire one game and beat San Fran, but then get beat by the Chargers in the next if your players are average or bad conditioned. It keeps the replay value of the game fresh because any team can beat you (some a lot more than others) You can play modern games and it gets boring when you get good. Tecmo super bowl just always stays fresh. Its amazing. I dont know much about this Gen/Mega Drive version, it looks pretty similar. But i wonder, does it have that magic formula of the original NES version? Or is it a typical sports game once you master it, you just win all the time?

Bring the old intro back, Mark! And I agree with you, these games were fun! You should review International Superstar Soccer Deluxe for the Genesis too. It's the same thing for me: I hate soccer but that game is simply the BEST.

I had 4,013 yds with Sanders (11.1 yds per carry), & (EXACTLY) 3,000 yds passing with Rodney, Moore had (exactly) 100 catches too. I absolutely LOVED this game! Lol.

Riz2336 He has his own style, and I think he does fine, but I will say sometimes he could do more research on a product he is reviewing like the light kit, but then again I don't come to CGR, and Undertow for super professional reviews, it's more for a few laughs, and awesome games.

NEON 7 Is Blitz fun? Yes. But it was too arcade-y. Dumbed the game down a bit too much, at least for my taste. The Techno Bowl games, I feel, hit the sweet spot between Arcade style and Simulation style.

Crazy how opinions differ. I'd have said the opposite. SNES was too cartoony, quarters went too fast, & animations weren't as cool (to me). The one thing I DID like about SNES was the acknowledgement of in-game statistical achievements (100 rush yds, 300 pass yds, etc.), that Sega didn't implement until III. Just glad people got to enjoy the game, regardless of console preference. Long Live TSB!
