Zoom 909 review! CGR is supported by a legion of rad fans around the galaxy. If you dig it, please kick in at least $2 on Patreon for CGR production :) Lord Karnage will smile upon thee!!
Classic Game Room reviews ZOOM 909 from Sega for the Sega SG-1000, the SG-1000 version of Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom! Zoom 909 is a cool game which doesn't match the magnificence of Planet of Zoom, but still shows promise and plays like a rough draft of Space Harrier and Galaxy Force II (except for that dreaded top down sequence!)

Thank you for watching this brand new Sega SG-1000 review in 2016! If we all join forces, perhaps we can persuade Sega to add a MkIII card reader to the Dreamcast 2 when they make it. I also want to see a Sega 32X cartridge slot and a beer tap that dispenses Racer 5 whenever I want it. Once again thank you all - CGR is backed by fans on www.patreon.com/posts/4330662

None of that will happen, I'm afraid. With so many bad consoles (32X, SG-1000) and the destruction of Sonic (Sonic 2006, Sonic Boom), Sega is no more.

+Lord Karnage I have to wonder if we use a JP Mega Drive & 32X, JP Power Base converter, and the Card Catcher if you CAN play SG-1000 on the 32X. AT that point an S-Video mod and beer tap would be easy to add. Thank you Sega for even making that sentence possible. SG-1000 Sega Cd 32X games possible?

The best part of this game is that it says © Sega 1985 in the lower right corner at all times, just in case you forget who owns the legal rights to the game as you play.

Hi Game Sack. A.k.a. the King of Sega(Joe) and King of Nintendo(Dave). Zoom 909 is a great game. It's like Commuter with Zaxxon.

Zoom 909 was the working title for the arcade game before they acquired the Buck Rodgers license and just slapped it on a game they already had in development. The arcade machine was one of the earliest examples of hardware sprite scaling. Sprite zooming was accomplished without any high speed math chips, instead it used a bank of 8 voltage controlled oscillators that were used as clocks for reading the objects out of ROM as they were drawn to the screen. The graphics hardware would "race the beam" as the sprites were drawn to the screen and the lower the VCO frequency the longer the image would take to be read out and drawn and so the sprite would be drawn larger on the screen.

I remember playing this so many times on my trusty MSX. It was a great game. Level 3 quite difficult indeed. Thanks for posting this.

Like the review though, why did you stretch the video to 16:9 from 4:3? It looked wonky and fat. Other than that I love the tv + you shots, they show you actually hating or enjoying the game, works really well!

Actually the Arcade game opens with the trench run so the Sega-1000 and MSX are the closest ports really since all of the others skip it entirely.

@NCISCherno
@NCISCherno 9 жыл бұрын
+TheInsanemonkeyboy SG-1000 Sega Cards do not work with a US Master system. As far as I can tell they will work with the black Japanese Master System that looks like the US Master System. However I do not own a JP black Master system to test it on. They do work with SG-1000mk2 and SC-3000 as long as you have the Card Catcher.
