This was probably my favorite Intellivision game. Seems hard to believe, but having a monster pop out of nowhere would scare the shit out of you. As mentioned, it was very replayable. My friend and I even enjoyed when the game system starting fucking up, popping in bits of "video garbage" that would block your path and occasionally saving us from a monster. Good times.

This is easily one of my favorite Intellivision games. It can get very tense and suspenseful exploring the dungeons, especially when you're down to a few arrows and you hear a snake hissing or a dragon snoring somewhere in the dark. The control scheme is easy enough that you do not need to use an overlay. I never use one. Overall a very unique game and fun to play today. Novices will easily be flustered, but once you get the gameplay and arrow firing down it's great.

I'm so happy that I found this video. I loved playing this game in the 80's. This brought back a lot of memories. Thanks!

This was my FAVORITE GAME EVER!!!! We didn't have an Atari, only Intellivision. What great memories! I'd play my vinyl ELO record and play this for hours.

The controls didn't suck. You just needed to practice on them to get the hang of it.

Aww man I KNOW this vid is a million years old but he didn't explain the mechanics well at all! Blobs - just there to block your progress and kill you if you touch them. Bats - block the subtle noise you hear from snakes and dragons when they're nearby but not yet encountered (thereby alerting you to when they're in an undiscovered room) Spiders - steal your arrows when you run into them. Enemies in order of difficulty: Rats - Grey mountains 2 rats, 1 snake. Only go into Grey mountains for arrows. Ratsake no noise. You know if they're in a room next to you by paw prints, little dots on the floor (although they may well be droppings lol, least that what my 6 year old self used to believe). They guard arrows and the exit ladder. Snake guards nothing and make a noise when nearby (see next paragraph) Snakes - Red mountains. 2 snakes, 1 rat. The snakes guard an axe for traversing forest areas of the main map and the exit ladder, rat guards nothing. The snake will make a little ssssip, ssssip sssip noise if you are in a room nearby but not yet encountered. Demons - Blue mountain. 2 demons 1 snake. The demons guard a boat for traversing rivers and the exit ladder, snake guards nothing. Demons cannot be heard like a snake (or dragon) but can be located by three 2-toed prints on the floor warning you that a demon will be in a room immediately off the current room you're in. Dragon - Purple mountain. 2 dragons, 1 demon. Dragons guard a key for getting past the locked gate on the main map and the exit ladder, demon guards nothing. Dragons make a soft growl, almost a purr when they're in a room nearby and undiscovered. Misty mountain - End game. This is where you encounter 2 winged dragons that guard the 2 pieces of crown you need to finish the game, and 1 normal dragon. Both types of dragon make the same soft growl/purr noise as they do in purple mountains. You have 4 levels of difficulty in this game - the difficulty shown in this vid is easy as displayed by the colour of Misty Mountain : Grey - easiest, followed in order of difficulty by Red, Blue then Purple being the hardest. Difficulty is reflected in: 1. Everything in game moving faster the harder level you choose 2. The amount of arrows per quiver reduced 3. How much damage enemies do Phew! I had to write all that down. I love this game so much it was annoying to see such a poor 'review' giving ZERO explanation for the game mechanics behind it

Original Intellivision controls are standard dual-stick for AD&D. One for movement and one for firing vector. Smash TV was similar.

I never understand the people that say the controls sucked--I loved the controls, I loved the ability to have multiple buttons for every game. Much better than the stupid atari joystick and 1 button option. The only thing that got me upset about this game was the END game feature. I wish it would have gone to a level 2, level 3, so on when you completed the first one and then had a score to beat, etc...

Thanks for sharing. I used to play SNAFU all day and night. And that Math Jungle game. My dad refused to buy Atari. He did much research on Intellivision and we were the only ones on the block with it. GREAT SHARE!

Right on man! This is my favorite game on Intellivision as well. I have recorded my footage for my review. Just haven't got around to editing and stuff yet. I got the same RF shadows on my footage lol. I am also working on many Intellivision reviews. So keep an eye out for them. I really like this video here. Keep up the awesome videos.

I wish they would remake this using modern day graphics. I thought this game controlled great. You had to know how to use the disc controller.

I Highly recommend it! I still play mine. The randomly generated world and labrynth maps make it impossible to play the same game over again. And with several difficulty settings, you can challenge yourself against faster enemies with fewer arrows. Be cautious aroudn spiders! They steal your arrows!

Everyone keeps bitching about how the controls sucked but it was this keypad concept that made so many of the game complex and interesting. Joysticks are great for shoot em up type games but this was Intelligent Vision so many games required thought and strategy.

What these games had...all of them...was longevity. The graphics, compared to today, may have been crap, but back then, we didn't know any better. Because, we thought that these graphics were great, hahaha. Just goes to show you that even though the graphics may not be good, if the game is playable and addictive, then it will continue to be played and remembered.

I liked that game too. I think my favorite to play was Tower of Doom. I'd have to choose the longer levels for it to be entertaining. I still have my intellivision but it don't work.

Blue = Boats guarded by a Troll Red = Key guarded by Dragon Grey = Arrows guarded by rats The other colour is Axe guarded by Serpent. The crowns are guarded by Winged Dragons. If you're a frame away from a enemy you'll hear their noise with the exception of Trolls which are silent. Foot prints indicate the types of enemies in the dungeon. Bats, Spiders, Slime & Serpents do not leave tracks. Rats are by far the deadliest enemy.

Dude..I own this game..and your review is rather lackluster. You didn't go into any detail on what the mountains were, how their difficulty is represented, you also didn't mention that the game has several levels of difficulty, which increases the speed of the monsters and lowers your arrow count per quiver. Oh, and the controller doesn't suck. As a matter of fact, if you take good enough care of your controller, oil it, clean it periodically, the controller is actually quite nice.
