Residing on the corner of 95th & Jamaica, there were quite the number of times in my youth that I spent salivating over their rice pudding. Due to my obsession with herring at the time, I was introduced to the roll-mop and it pretty much changed my culinary views forever.

Watching this video reminds me of when I worked at a deli called the royal deli on grand ave in ELMHURST QUEENS and CHARLIE was the owner along with his brother DAVID and his sister who worked the cash register DOROTHY and NORA made the salads. I made the hot specials, which we faxed out, and we had 5 delivery men, extremely busy breakfast was OK but lunch was like the bus just pulled up and on average we made about 1800 to 2,000 a week ago I was the CHEF MANAGER Iknew the neighborhoods and all the different businesses

Well, that's right! As a matter of fact though: This is more or less the ONLY dish on the whole menu that could be considered "German" ;-) ( Speaking as a German ). I mean: Maccaroni salad ( Italian ), rice pudding ( Asian ), bread pudding ( UK ), roastbeef ( same ). Mac&Cheese even ( as American as it can get ) ! But - same old story - like in so many cases ( but especially with "Germany / German" I reckon ): The stereotypes are just too tenacious 😄

@@j.bradleyheck1589 "Bavarian" potato dumplings..? ( Hm, I know potato dumplings general. But that"s it. ) But there are typical Bavarian bread dumplings. They are called "Semmelknödel" ( "Semmel" = bread roll; "Knödel" = dumpling ). Very typical. They're awesome! ( I"m German. With my paternal grandfather being from Bavaria. )

I worked in a German deli in the Bronx that was wonderful, the Bedford Deli. A wonderful German mother named El Frida and her son Hans Peter and daughter Hanna Laurie were so professional. they served great food and were very good people. However, by the late 1980 they left because of demographic changes. So Sad. Now it is a bodega. Tragic. Thank you Liberals.

As a German, let me just say: I'm just amused time and again by how Americans ( New Yorkers ) imagine genuine "German" food ;) And - in addition - accompanied by that cliché music 🙈 😄 In all honesty: It all has barely anything to do with "German". If anything: It is rather what is speculated to be it. I mean: Maccaroni salad ( more likely Italian? ), rice pudding ( Asian? ), bread pudding ( British ), Mac&Cheese even! ( indubitably American ), roastbeef ( British ), ... Don't get me wrong: The food looks pretty appealing and all. And you can't deny all the staff's dedication. For sure a lot more value than any fast food chain could ever supply. But "German" - well, no. Let's hear it for the good old stereotypes 😅 Best wishes! 🇩🇪 🤝🏻 🇺🇸
