Classic Gingerbread Recipe & Decoration | Cupcake Jemma

'Tis the season to be Jolly! And also 100% the season for baking! This recipe is an absolute MUST for your Christmas baking repertoire. I'm so happy to be back with you guys and I had such a lovely afternoon decorating these cookies with Sally. You should definitely do the same with your friends and family this festive period. Ingredients:
For the gingerbread:
125g Soft Unsalted Butter
175g Soft Light Brown Sugar
1 Large Egg
80g Golden Syrup (corn syrup will also work)
350g Plain Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 Heaped tsp Cinnamon
1 Heaped tsp Ginger
Good pinch of Nutmeg and Cloves
For the royal icing:
400g Icing Sugar
15g Egg White Powder
4-6 tbsp Cold Water

As a UK person I'm just gonna say now, that purchasing American molasses, specifically the brand "Grandma's" light molasses. It adds this flavourful depth within your gingerbread biscuits and (imo) tastes better than using the black treacle from here, it's far less bitter and it's very tasty! If you ever have the chance to find it in stores or online, I highly recommend that you purchase it

My son and I made these gingerbread 3 days ago. Omg it is so addictive. It came out so perfect. I used stork butter as I did not have unsalted butter at hand. The dough was to soft so I had to add more flour and placed it in the freezer for about an hour before I used it

Aw Jemma, I sympathise. My hubby has a slipped disc and he can’t even get in and out of the car! It’s very early days for him, but when mine went it took a good 8 weeks before I was back at work. It’s an indescribable pain but it does subside in time. Glad you had your fun piping session, it was great to see you. Get well soon mwah 😘

Hi Jemma, Sally and the C&D team! Golden syrup is here in the States. It's not called golden syrup, though. It's called King syrup and is sometimes used like a super thick pancake syrup. It does also say golden syrup on the bottle, it just goes by King syrup. Hope it helps!
