Classic John Deere harvest | JD 360 trailed combine | Wheat harvest & straw baling

This is not a scene that you will see every day. This is no working day. One Dutch farmer still uses a small fleet of John Deere classics for harvesting cereals and baling the straw. It is a glorious sight to see these tractors and machines in action during the hottest and driest summer on record.
The winter wheat is cut using a 1972 John Deere 2130 tractor which powers a 1970 John Deere 360 trailed combine harvester. Two tractors and trailed are stood on the headland for unloading.
The straw is then baled into small square bales using a slightly newer John Deere 1140 and 224T baler. In tow is a Meijer 8-bale sledge.

You might be thinking that how weird idea this was, well that time tractor was the only motorized workhorse that propelled equipment on the farm. Well now we have self propelled combines, but in 2070 people will laugh at us why didn't people have self propelled seeders or cultivators in 2020. By that I mean, next generations will invent things like self propelled balers or something...

Self propelled balers does already exist. New Holland did make one self propelled small square bale baler and Vermeer makes self propelled round balers. Self propelled seeders and cultivaters are still to be invented though

Takes me back to my youth, only difference, - it was an M/H harvester and we had to stand on the side bagging up the grain, then put them on a shoot, 3 bags and you kicked a lever with your foot and left the bags in a heap on the field. Later you had to go round picking them all up, - those sacks weighed a bit full and all. Modern farmers are a load of softies, air con cabs, GPS, cushioned seats and I doubt if they barely touch the grain from planting to selling. One thing I am surprised at, since the tractor is used agriculturally and not just a 'museum' piece, is that he is not required to have at least a 'roll-over' bar fitted. Ah those were the days, the smell of the TVO, lunch brought out by the farmers wife - usually in a wicker basket covered with a check cloth, - sandwiches, usually cheese & pickle, all washed down with 'homemade' lemonade or ginger beer. Now alas gone forever, I still think they were better times than todays mad rush and scramble. Plus everything seemed to taste better, perhaps it hadn't been 'treated' with all these 'extras' they put in them to make them 'long lasting', - to my mind they don't last as long. Buy a fresh loaf today and if you leave it out within 2 days it starts going mouldy, - buy one in the 60's/70's and it would quite happily sit in the Bread bin (With holes in the lid) for a week or so, - in fact it usually went hard rather than mouldy.

@@BlackDragonWitheHawk You weren't a 'softie' operating that type of machine, in fact you had a long hard day and the next and so on until the harvest was in. Not like today GPS and electronic controls, most operators spend more time 'playing games' on their "iphones" than they do actually driving their machinery.
