Oooh that Du Maurier sounds intriguing! Wow, so many good ones to choose from! I look forward to hearing about your reading experience of the ones you chose.

I know right? And it seems like a great, low stakes way to get into Du Maurier’s works, or really any author who has a little Penguin Modern edition.

It's interesting to see Donna Tartt in many booktubers tbr. I remember when Secret Hitory was published in the early 90's friends were reading and liking the book. I've never read her. About 3 years earlier the film version of Last Exit to Brooklyn created some controversy and led to some theaters not showing it. I read the book at the time and liked it. That copy of Women in Love is the one I read. Lawrence is a writer I read when I was younger, including Sons and Lovers and the Rainbow. The infamous Lady Chatterly's Lover I did not read until many years later, although I'd see the film on t.v. one night when I was a kid. Never read a Maughm book, but many of his short stories which are first rate. It's funny, but sometimes I find Du Maurier in the romance section at bookstores. I don't read romance books, but sometimes out of curiosity I browse that section to see books that are misplaced. Maybe those that don't like Rebecca think it's a romance, which it isn't.

I love those little ones. Like potato chips, makes you want to snack on them! I'm re-reading Moby Dick with my book club, and I have the new Wilson translation of The Iliad on this year's to-read list. So many books, so little time!

I bought 'The Birds and other short stories by Daphne du Maurier and was amazed that The Birds was nothing like the Hitchcock movie which is set in America while the book has the tale set in England. So I will be interested in hearing how you find her little novel as I haven't heard of it before. Very interesting to hear about the Classical books you would like to read this year.

That’s interesting! I haven’t read the book or seen the film, so I didn’t know about the differences. But that does tend to happen in book to movie adaptations I’ve noticed.
