Andrew, you find the nicest stuff. Marantz built fine receivers with that "industrial" look. A low filter and two tape monitors are a nice touch on this 2216B. Admittedly, 16wpc won't knock down the walls with power but with efficient speakers (like the EPI-100's) this would be fine for den or kitchen system. Might even sound sweet in a living room if not too large and volume kept reasonable. Marantz receivers usually performed better than their specs indicated. Nice video.

..a friend was moving and need to get rid of stuff so I got mine for free with a set of Cerwin Vega floor speakers...it sounds really nice. I love the retro 70's look of the Marantz

Also for sale near me is a Marantz 2216b for $100. Don't need it for a party just want to find one for my boss. He wants to hook it up to his flatscreen tv so he can hear it better and he also wants to listen to some good music. Thanks for your response.

It sounds great to me! I don't know much about vintage audio, just got into it recently because its my father's hobby. I actually got this receiver after seeing your review. I don't know much difference of the sounds but I have about 8 Marantz receivers so far.

I'm just getting a 2215b today. How do you find the sound quality differences between the b-models vs. Non b-models? Also, how different is the sound quality between the low watt vs. Slightly higher watt models; 2215/16 vs. 2245/70?

Hello my friend! I just bought one of these in great original condition. Please let me know if you believe it will produce great crisp clears and bass 16Watts per channel seems little for me, but you mention it is quite powerful. I plan to use infinity SM215 speakers with this plus a subwoofer if necessary I will let you know when it is set up how I like it

+Fernando Gadala-Maria the infinity's have a 102db sensitivity so the 2x16w is more as enough

magnat zero 5

staat nu een zero 5 te koop op mp. mijn zero 5 heb ik helaas niet meer, had een woofer opgeblazen door een amp test met een foute switch. Als het niet zo ver was had ik ze zelf gehaald. de zero 5 klinkt beter dan de zero 7 die ik nu heb. Heb ook de msp 120 maar nog niet getest.

Which speakers do you recommend for the marantz 2216?

look, i struggled 4 years to find the perfect speaker. And every time i think my speaker hunting days are over I see another and sometimes better one. In fact there is not a certain speaker to match with a certain receiver ore amp. The best speaker will always sound better on every receiver you connect it with. The problem with good speakers is that they are very expensive. You can find a super good sounding, cheap vintage receiver for about 50 to 200 euro but finding a good speaker under 200 euro is very difficult. Speakers are however the most important thing in a setup, you can have the best amplifier but when you have cheap speakers the sound will be cheap too. But expensive good speakers can still sound good on a medium core amplifier. My dream speakers are at the moment heco the new statement but they are way to expensive for me at the moment. As soon if i can find them under 1000 euro i will buy them, though.800/ 1000 is my limit now but if i would crank that up to 2000 i would even find better second hand speakers as the heco's i think. unfortunately my wallet is not so deep ....it all depends how much you want to spend for speakers.

Thanks for your reply. So, as Marantz is know to give warmer sounds, there are some specific qualities (like warmth) among speaker brands? Any recommended brand for a ~500€ speakers to connect with a Marantz 2216 or a Sansui G3000, or the Pioneer sx-790? Thanks for your videos!

Ik heb de Magnat Zero 5 net bekeken op Marktplaats. Wat een joekels! Ik ben eigenlijk op zoek naar een boekenplankmodelletje, maar dan wel uit de periode eind jaren 70 /begin jaren 80 en passend bij de Marantz 2216B. Heb jij nog suggesties?

je hebt ook de zero 3 en 4. Ik weet niet of je een sub ernaast gebruikt maar de meeste kleine speakers missen bas. dat is de reden dat ik niet van kleine speakers hou. Als je een sub gebruikt kan je alle kanten op, dan zijn er veel kleine speakers die mooi klinken. Let vooral op de frequentie, hoe hoog ze gaan, koop speakers die hoger gaan dan 20.000hz, liefst hoger dan 30.000 hz. bmw vision srie heeft ondergewaardeerde kleine speakers die je soms kunt kopen voor heel weinig maar die missen ook bas. de zero 3 start met 38hz, dat is erg laag voor zo een kleine speaker. Ik heb nu in mijn kelder beestachtig grote jbl e80 en die beginnen ook met 38hz. Ik heb hier een stel zero 3 maar de tweeters zijn kapot.

+Peter Kudelstaart Hallo Andrew, Uiteindelijk heb ik een paar Magnat Zero 3's gekocht. Dat zijn toch al best grote luidsprekers. Eerste indruk is dat ze lager gaan en grootser klinken dan mijn Wharfedale 507's. Ik heb ze nog niet op mijn 2216b uitgeprobeerd, maar op mijn Marantz PM7004 klinken ze fantastisch.

Peter Kudelstaart Ja door mijn filmpjes zijn er al meer mensen die magnat herontdekken. Ik heb momenteel de msp 60, 70 en 200 en de zero 7. de zero 5 was tot nu toe mijn best klinkende., alhoewel, ik heb nog geen van de msp die ik hier heb getest. de msp 200 heeft kapotte tweeters, ga de tweeters van de 60 overzetten. Heb ook nog een set zero 3 met kapotte tweeters. blijft toch de meest betaalbare goede speaker. Mensen denken dat 25 jaar oude speakers slechter zijn maar ze vergissen zich. Het hoog van jouw zero 3 zal ook veel aangenamer klinken dan de wharfedales. gefeliciteerd
