Amazing follow up. I'm literally following step by step. Thanks for advise on what to check its the difference between restoration costing 10k and everything replaced willy nilly and maybe never finished and maybe it costing 5k and getting to enjoy it. Great advice and videos. Keep it up.

Cracking video Paul 👍 look forward to second part.. you make it so understandable that you could give it a go yourself... suggestion for thought, be good if you had a little camera mounted above your bench to see straight down to see into the box or other bench work etc, would make Billy’s life a it easier too.. keep up the top work!

was great to see you replacing the O ring on the spindle for selector forks,i took that out and replaced it on my build a couple months back and the comments i got from people that should know better were very negative,as i was wasting my time,,ive heard these can leak which is why i did a complete rebuild,not arthur job like some of my critics..i dont cut corners..great work mate.
@HREIRL3 жыл бұрын
A good gearbox rebuild should involve replacing all perishable components those being negative are simply trying to reassure them selves they did it right by not replacing it 😊

Just a thought on the faffy pin on the shaft. When the ring is of the shaft out the way, paint, or score a line up the shaft in line with the hole/pin so when its all going back together, you have a good idea of where the pin is sitting. Does that make sense? I'm not really a gearbox person, but I was looking to rebuild an F13 dog box and was looking for vids, but not a lot out there. Like your work though, a good insight as what to look for, thanks.

Greetings from Canada Another great episode.. Had to watch it twice to follow along... Probably need to watch it again.. Hahaha I have heard you say “dog box”...straight cut... remote... rod change... Are any or all “ interchangeable”..? Please advise.. Missing Gretel.. and more Fabri-Cobbling Curtis
@HREIRL3 жыл бұрын
Hi Curtis, Gretel will be back on line shortly we are just waiting on panels to become available. Remote and Rod change are not interchangeable unfortunately. Generally dog box and syncro are.

@@HREIRL Hello Paul.. Thanks for the reply.. reason I ask about the transmission/gear box is that in my Mini currently I have a 998 w rod change.. I have recently purchased a Cooper 998 w a remote.. and I am missing the drive shafts/“knuckle” assy’. I think now I am probably heading for a full front sub-frame build up... Any recommendations..? Thanks in advance Curtis

Are the early magnesium alloy gearbox casing still the strongest?
@HREIRL3 жыл бұрын
Haven't encountered any of them DJB but I would imagine at this stage they are some 50 years old and magnesium suffers from embrittlement meaning while it will be lighter it would be more likely to fracture

Hi Paul, Another great video. Coincidently I think I might have cracked my Moke's gearbox casing at a motorkhana (autotest) yesterday. I've at least stripped a tooth from the pinion or crownwheel. Haven't stripped it yet, but I'm thinking I should order parts so they get to Australia in time for the rebuild. Do you use gearbox rebuild kits, or do you source parts individually? Have you had any experience (good or bad) with the MED or KAD Pinion Support Bearing Housing? Cheers, Dave

Hello, I’m about to finish my 1380 with a remote sc gearbox.
@percalmered61733 жыл бұрын
My intention is to use sc drop gears. Mini racing people tell me that the swiftune drop gears are better and a lot more quiet. Do you know why they are more quiet than for example MED:s and Minispares drop gesrs?

Hi Paul, So I am one of those guys who purchased the C-22A1741 Baulk Rings from mini spares for my DAM5626 gearbox with what looks like standard gears. I have not assembled the gearbox yet and am wondering if you think I would be better off with the 22G2033EVO Baulk Rings instead?
@HREIRL3 жыл бұрын
100% Gomer the rings you have are way to hard for the standard gear sets. The rings John Guess sells are great as is the 22G2033EVO rings
