I think one of the things I enjoy most about your channel is that you overcome problems with the equipment you've got. Your line boring video is a classic example of something I thought wouldn't be possible without a large and exspensive piece of equipment. The way you overcame the piston issue was interesting, you used what you had and most importantly I learnt stuff along the way. Love your channel mate 👍

It seems impossible but it’s just getting better. The clarity and close ups are superb. The tips and tricks would fill a Fileofax if anyone remembers them, the passion is powerful, the knowledge is awesome and criticism is openly welcomed but let it be constructive criticism and not the petty ramblings of the disillusioned. The great mechanics and technicians are great not because they are always right but because they are courageous and humble. They admit to their mistakes but they learn from them and go forward stronger in their never ending search for continual improvement. Racing is about innovation, pushing limits, risking, trying something different when something old isn’t working. You said your engine pulled 130 on the dyno, I think the original mini pulled something like 38! Keep doing what you’re doing. It is as awesome as it is refreshing. The merch is great. Love the mug. They’re yar now!

Well put Thomas 👏 I also bought the mug and love it! Our SPI puts out 50hp which certainly gives some perspective. I think 130hp from an NA A series is pretty good going.

The positive comments greatly out way the ones who come from the small brain fraternity so just block them. Another fascinating video Paul. Race videos and some footage of the other cars would be great to see. Big thumbs up from me.

Please do add the race footage - its been an aspect that I would love to see the end result... to be honest every part up to the real race is as important - and to be honest even if you have to retire early it makes a real race day. Stick it up! Regarding the gearbox build - thanks so much - this was the video I needed to start putting mine together lol.

Another fascinating video Paul, I was interested in the pinion double nut, I've never seen that before......and also another yes from me for the race footage, keep up the good work 👍

Thanks for continuing with the gearbox rebuild, I'm enjoying them and like your torque tip. Please show us what footage you have of the race day. Just an aside, Locktight used to, they may still be, based in Welwyn Garden City and in about 1964ish I was involved in the original testing of bearing fit, in the small end bush on my Villiers 2T twin motorcycle that was slack in its conrod housing.

Absolutely Brilliant!!! You keep my brain active because I have to stop and figure out whether you’re talking about .1mm which is .0039”… I think on the “end float” you showed .1 on the dial gauge, but then said that gave you about .0035 thou.. took me a few minutes to figure that out.. speaking of which, if you ever find the time, would love to know more detail about the ‘end float’ as the camera didn’t quite pickup where/what you were prying on the big end… so I’m not quite sure what is going on here.. I just read on Mini Spares to lock 1st and 4th and not 2nd & 3rd per Haynes manual.. you simply reinforced this.. thank you. I’ll be watching this series multiple times for sure.. thank you for the time and effort of sharing your knowledge..

You had to remove comments?, good grief , what's the world coming to? Yes , machining the piston tops was a bodge , you said so yourself , but a bodge is only bad if it makes a situation worse . Keep up the good work , this site is what good youtube is all about.
@aussiebloke6093 жыл бұрын
Damn straight. It's the same as using tape to hold down a bit of errant bodywork. We know it's not ideal, it's a quick, rough fix to get you back into the fray again...and if it works, it's all just peachy. Some people seem to think everything has to be perfect all the time - these are people that likely will miss many race meets while chasing their tail to accomplish that perfection. :-)
@trevorgetty57883 жыл бұрын
I know he said it was a bodge, but I dont think it was, if the pistons have the ability to work as well with that machined off the top, your only rectifying a machining issue done at the factory. If the pistons were going to fail afterwards, yes it would have been a bodge. top man for doing this at home !
@trevorgetty57883 жыл бұрын
Quick question, just to make sure I understand what you were doing with the nip ( bearing clamping load ). You had nearly 0.25mm clearance ( so 9.8 thou ), and you put in a 0.15mm shim taking you down to 0.1mm clearing which is roughly 3.9 thou. Giving you the clearance range after the shim down to your 2-5 thou?
