Classic mini wheel alignment using TRACK-ACE...it’s ace!!!

Hi,
Here is a guide to doing toe wheel alignment on my classic mini. The same technique can be used on most other vehicles and the principal remains the same.
Please always ensure you read and fully understand your wheel alignment gauge instructions and you are competent to carry out this work.
The toe setting for a classic mini is -1.58mm or around - 0degrees and 23 minutes.
Please ensure you check your manufactures guidance on toe settings prior to undertaking this task.

I have those exact same tires the nankangs, they retain a bit too much gravel rocks and wear too fast out here in rural Arizona! Thanks for your video much appreciated 👍

Nice one Tom. It does take a bit of getting used to but not a bad piece of equipment. You explained its use very well and the reason for tracking.It does seem a bit complicated but it does work and it does get the car through the test. I bet those minis get through the MOT easily. Thanks.

Rupert Leanna cheers pal. Yeah, it took some getting my head around lol. But works very well and is a nice bit of kit. My MOT went well, but then it had just been rebuilt. MOT’s can be a bit of a bugger and have written off many a mini in the past due to rust etc.

HI Tom ... thanks for the video.... only one thing .... never assume that both track rod ends are the same length could be made by different peeps. How would you get on checking your REAR tracking ??? Look forward to seeing that.

Looks like abit of a hassel..was thinking of buying one..but looks like I'll take it to the shop..also told on mercedes they can adjust the rear aswell im just too confused to be dealing with it..but wish it was simpler..

Good video but when you have your steering wheel straight then use the trackace and it’s out , how do you know if one side needs toe in or the other toe out ?

RustyWreck without getting too in depth into the gauges workshops use, this gauge measures the total toe in/out. So provided that both track rod ends and toe rods are the exact same length before you start to make any adjustments, this will give you the total toe. You then need to adjust each side equally a bit at a time depending on whether you have too much total toe in or too much toe out. Hopefully that makes sense how I’ve written it

Hi nothing related to the above . I have just finished with a homemade Rotisserie i made for my Mk 1 mini if any one would like to borrow it they are more than welcome, i made some cross braces for the inside all so. The centre pole goes all the way through and extends about 2ft either end of mini I live in Filey North Yorkshire Hope you don't mind me putting this on your blog Tom

How do u crawl under to access the tie rod without disturbing the alignment tool too much?

Hey, just bought a trackace and I am struggling a bit on my Porsche 924, the trackace tool measures the angular difference between the right an left wheel. But if the wheels are pointing into one direction but equally the tool will still show you 0° of toe but your steering wheel will not be level, how do i get around that? I have done all the adjustments so that the tool shows 0° toe and my steering wheel is still not straight. Am I missing something?

A good video thanks. Just a thought but when you set the track rods before setting up the gauge should both have been set to 23mm ? I know there wasn't a lot in it (22 and 24mm) but setting them both to 24mm must have pushed one side out by 2mm ? The track rod lengths would be machined the same either side so the thread length would be equal.

as long as both sides are an equal length to begin with, and they are adjusted equally, it shouldn’t matter. or that’s the theory anyway.

How do u measure the toe angle for the lower cars let's say agolf 4

Hi, so I assume you have a lowered mk4 golf, the actual degrees of toe will be in the Haynes manual, auto data or google. In terms of doing the wheel alignment, bear in mind that if it’s been lowered this will effect all of the geometry so getting an accurate toe that’s suitable for the modifications done may be difficult unless set up properly by a professional with a 4 wheel alignment service
