Eric was always a naughty boy, making Ann Hamilton crack up like that.

I only had slight exposure to Morcambe and Wise here in the States growing up when it was broadcast for a time on PBS. I knew it was funny, but WAY too fast for a 7-year old or whatever I was. But I was always fond of them, especially Ernie. I remember him appearing in a popular US sitcom around that time, "Too Close For Comfort", and that was apparently his last imdb acting role. I was a precocious Anglophile, and remember reading Eric's obituary in a 1984 British paper. Honestly, "Bring Me Sunshine" was probably what reasonated with me....such a fantastic, happy song when performed by them. And I must say, Ernie does an AMAZING and extremely convincing American accent in this.....just as British can detect bad UK accents, I have a pretty good ear for pronunciation, and Ernie is spot on throughout this sketch.....God bless 'em!!!!!

Well they will never be replaced here in the UK. Ernie wanted to really make it in the States, he had the dream to make a musical movie because as a kid he was billed as "England's Mickey Rooney" but Eric said as it took them 25 years to make it in the UK he wasn't prepared to relocate and start again. Ed Sullivan loved them but a lot of Americans didn't get them because of the speedy delivery and Eric's accent. Shame really but that's life.

Ann Hamilton usually does so well in keeping a straight face. It's funny seeing her break character :D

I'm always happy to know that I still have a chance to meet some of the film/TV greats. I have a good-size list of the ones still alive, Ann Hamilton is definitely one of them :)

This was Anne’s first time onscreen with Eric & Ernie. Thank u 4 posting. Eric once described her as their Margaret Dumont ala the Marx Bros.

*_It was a plant._* _"I bought it as a pen! What's it gonna grow into-a biro?!"_ Who'd have thought, sixty years later, that would have me cracking up like Ann tried so hard not to? 🤣

Brilliant, not seen this before, and I'll never watch 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' in the same light again. 'Scarred me for life, that has.' as someone once said.

Aha! So these are from a different series. Was wondering why I suddenly found these. Love them!

@disparatedan she said in an interview that she hated breaking character and laughing and to combat this she would go away and say to herself that she hated them so she wouldn't laugh during a sketch :)

Which episode number is this
@disparatedan15 жыл бұрын
Yeah! This was in the early days - by the "Antique Shop sketch" days (see above) she had mastered the art of keeping that straight face. Incidentally - I looked her up on IMDb and Wiki and they only have her joining Eric and Ernie when they switched to the Beeb. Which is patently not true - as here she is, working with the boys in '65 on ATV. But then, there is very little info available on their ATV series. I could find little on her except the fact she was still working, last year.

Yes, this is definitely pre-BBC. For a start it's in black & white and there are mentions of Sid & Dick, their writers at ITV. Eddie Braben came on board when they switched to BBC.
