Hi, I'm the one who bought the series 2 SD1. Thanks for your comments Dave. I've just had the auto'box rebuilt, and treated the minor rust issues. She's all ready for some shows in 2014. My only problem is : why aren't lock-up garages wider ?

2:00 - Victoria Police in Australia used these Bosch-Hella Halogen beacon flashing lights on all of their car fleet from 1979-1984 combined with the LTS Siren with twin PA speakers (see this on KZbin Wail, Mix and yelp made by Vic.Pol)) fitted to ski-bars. Also the bigger version of these beacons were also used on some of their special squad vehicles like Accident Appreciation Squad vehicles and 4WD vehicles and Water Police boats. Then into the 1984-1999 the squarer Hella lights were used with the similar metal base and chrome band at the bottom of the lense and then the full blue cover lights from about 2000 to 2010. Now they just use the full length light bar with blue and red LED lights. A bit of trivia for you, there's an episode of the hit TV series The Professionals called "The Acorn Syndrome" and one of these Rovers with a single light on the roof and the two spotlights is featured doing quite a spectacular bit of flash-driving early in the episode at an impending siege situation if you wanted to look that up on KZbin! Very good episode actually! Greetings from Melbourne, Australia!

The speedometers were always called "A.T. heads," as they were made by a company called "Auto-Tempo". They were all very old by the time the SD1 came along. They were removed from decommissioned cars, overhauled, recalibrated and refitted to new traffic cars for decade after decade. The 2600 was vastly underpowered for traffic or area car use. I think that the Met were offered this engine at a big discount to endorse a slow-selling variant. It was gutless! The 3500V8 was eventually given to Traffic Division, but Divisional officers were stuck with the 2600 until the last E-registered, stripped-out VDP repaints.

Hi if your interested the emergency CHALETS acronym on the dash has only recently been dropped by police to be the same as the other emergency services ie fire and ambulance. It also had the letters S.A.D put infront , survey, assess and disemenate . Bet you miss that car. Best Regards.
