I remember Baddow when I travelled on The Sunlamder in 1987, it was a trianglar station with a platform on each track of the triangle.. I wondered how often the tiny platform on the northen fork was used. At the time, connections to Maryborough was by bus. I watched a documentary where the Maryborough train was just set back into Maryborough. They didn’t bother with the loco changing ends as it was 5k or so. At Maryborough there is a WWII bomb shelter next to the station and had the words “Rail Passengers Only” or similar. It is still there.

I lived on the southern leg of Baddow near the old overhead bridge on the highway. I loved it a a small child watching the steam trains working their hearts out pulling out of Baddow with a full load on headed for Brisbane.

Back in 1983, i was staying in Maryborough, and did the trip out to Baddow and back in the connecting service for the Sunlander, formed by a DH loco and a single vehicle with 1st & 2nd Class accommodation plus a Guard's compartment and van section. Love to know if such a vehicle still exists anywhere?

The Mary Valley Rattler has a few I think. Some other railway preservation groups in Queensland may also have some.

Great video . A trip down memory lane, and I concur with the coments on 1551 .AKA the baby makers . I worked the sports carnival special to Pialba , top day out for the last passenger service on the branch , until on the way back to Maryborough a child fell from the train just south of Colton .

Didn't even have to look for the engine number at 6.03 to know that it was one of the first 1550 class locos. They had such a distinctive exhaust & always sounded throaty. Then I saw at 6.36, that it was 1551, the first one of this class that I ever worked on north from Bowen.

Memories alright, back in 77 I ended up on the Sunlander heading for Brissie instead of the Capricornia to Rocky!. Conductor had to back the train back to Baddow so I could catch the nth bound. What a balls up, made it though.

What was the difference between the sunlander and Queenslander?
@CalvusTV3 жыл бұрын
The Queenslander was a luxury premium service running once per week between Brisbane and Cairns. It had a dedicated trainset painted silver and blue with different internal fittings and on board service to move Sunlander. It also had motorail services. It was eventually combined with the Sunlander around 2002.
