Great video as always, Matt, thanks for that calm atmosphere and beautiful frames of your shots. I always think about all your come backs for the camera, packing of the gear again, making your trip most probably twice longer than iy would be without filming. I also enjoyed my T120 ride today, it's a really good bike, and you are the guy, that made me buy it without the test ride. Would do it again without any doubt :)

Hi, Matt, great video, love to see the Royal Enfield and have just come back to watching the channel, I am an older rider (50+) and only had my licence for just over 12 months. I live in Brisbane Australia, and found your channel when I started riding. I have a RE Hunter 350, blue and white, RE does build really good-looking classic motorbikes. It is my first bike and love it, not a powerhouse at all but a great commuter and weekend ride. My Christmas gift last year was "The Day Tripper Motorcycle Pannier Bag 10L - Black", love it works well just need to replace the main zip (broke) otherwise great product. Thanks again for the videos, keep the camping videos, they are great, Cheers Chris

Totally agree on the camping advice, keep it simple and make sure the tent is pleasant enough to be in if you have to spend time in it, and to be freestanding ideally. Smaller kit will cost more and there will inevitably be a compromise somewhere. I have a naturehike cloud up 2 tent and for me it’s the perfect balance of tiny pack size yet cheap and super comfortable. Great waffle, thanks

my experience with the t120 black is, that it´s harder to keep clean than a chrome one. every rain shower turn the black parts to grey and you have to clean it really often and need some colour-refreshing fluids like S100 black shine or equals. my honda cb sevenfifty with much more chrome parts was easier to clean. on the other hand - i like the adventure look of the black. and if it´s a little bit dirty, the scrambler tires suites better. :D :D :D i totally agree with you in terms of safe riding. we should always try to drive in our comfort zone and be patient. i think if you figured out your comfort speed, then you have more resources to pay attention to your surroundings and you are able to react better when mistakes happen. when i drive with folks, who have more fun by driving faster, i let them go and meet them at the next cafe. and if not - who cares - it´s my life, it´s my way to live and ride.

Thanks Nick, yes I've been piling the miles on the T120 so the Classic means I can slow it down a bit. Matt, your vlogs are always enjoyable and I’m looking forward to your next trip out under canvas… maybe take Donkey to northern France ? And as for Freddie Dobbs… he’s wonderful in his own chaotic way … I guess it’s his youth that he has on his side that enables him to be a little more “off piste” with his camping exploits !! Either way… you are both brilliant to watch.. maybe a road trip and meet up FD to get him to try slow up a bit! Take care Matt 🙏🏻

A trip to northern France on Donkey was in the plans for this year, and if by some miracle it stops raining long enough I'd still like to get that one ticked off, so all my fingers are crossed for that one. I very much enjoy Freddie's videos so I genuinely mean no disrespect to him, but he is making a bit of a hash of camping and the end result of him not enjoying it is not so surprising, which is what I was trying to say really. I'd very much like to meet him one day, I think there's a video or two that could be made between us.

Try changing your video format to H.265 if it's on H.264 in your camera, it's a bit easier for editing software to handle. Most times though upgrading your computer is the only way to get through the large file sizes of modern cameras, which can be an expensive pill to swallow.

Nice vid, Matt. Glad you're getting enough popularity to need a Q&A! Totally agree on your take of Royal Enfield. They saved a classic British make that we would have abandoned and lost and they are saving one big aspect of motorcycling that needs to return: Common sense. Vehicles that are functional and affordable. And they are doing it with way more style than is strictly necessary, so doubly admirable. I have a Triumph Speedmaster and it is awesome and I love it, but I am still sorely tempted by a Bullet 350 because it would be just as comfy and characterful (in a different way) and, as you feel too, if there were a new Bullet 500 I would be more than tempted. Power-wise the only reason I would like bigger than the RE 350 is I am a big guy and would like to be able to pillion the missus abroad as well. This _could_ be done on the RE 350, but a 500 make things easier. I would be planning non-motorway roads, anyway, but wouldn't want to get stuck in amongst vans and lorries, so a little more power would mean an 'easier' ride without compromising the advantages of a 'small' capacity bike. To be honest I am _still_ considering the Bullet 350, but I'm in no hurry, since RE might be producing a 450, 500 or 650 version soon (also Triumph is rumoured to be making a more classic version of their 400... Maybe even Speedmaster configured...)
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 4 ай бұрын
I think for the main market it's aimed at (India) the 350 is more than enough, but for our western roads just a smidgen more power to better cope with the faster roads would be ideal, and obviously they made a 500 Bullet for many years so I don't see why they couldn't make another. But it's still a lovely bike to ride, I don't think you'd be unhappy with one, especially at the price they sell for 👍🏻

Thanks Mike, I’m a big fan of Freddie & Monica too, he’s a natural in front of a camera. If he’d have been born 10 years earlier he’d have been a good telly presenter. Personally I’m not so comfortable talking in front of the camera, even in real life I tend to be fairly quiet, waffling for hours on film is not really in my skill zone 😁 But we all do our channels differently, I’ll do more talking videos in the future but mostly it’ll be my usual visual-music only efforts.

Hi Matt. All good with the tips. Those were some good questions. I've been doing this since the early seventies. Gone through a lot of changes. People today have multitudes of choices. Buy used, think backpack size, weight and keep it damn simple. See what you like. Go to a rally and check out the other attendees and see what they have, like and use often. Photography, 66 years since I took my first shot. Still have the print. I made a living at it several years. The scene, keep the subject in the third and on the side. Balance the vision, like you were doing the valley was the lead into the distance. The bike seat gave a good border stop for the left side. You were in the frame top to bottom without cut off feet and some clouds and sky over head. Those people just kept coming. Close the road next time. Good editing with the verbiage and cutting them out. Privacy is big, sure some stopped to chat. Nice jacket. The RE, my local dealer had a three thousand US dollar markup on the price. So I'll find another. I have many bikes. I like one I can get the most out of and use the machine to it's fullest and not hurt it. Those bikes are comfortable. I have carpal tunnel bad in both hands so smooth is premier. Very suitable for the roads you are on and I wouldn't hesitate to put a set of 30/70 tires on it and hit the hard pack gravel of the Isles and on to North Cape. Hope you ride it up there. Will it support heated grips with the correct voltage? They are a must about all the time for me. Therapeutic. All good mate. See you next time. It's like the Sahara here. All good from east Kentucky USA Take care ride safe
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 4 ай бұрын
Thanks Sam, yes I'd like to put some heated grips on the 350 as I use the ones on the T120 all the time, but it's quite a small battery so I'm not sure how it'll take it. Wish I could've closed the road off, but I imagine the locals would have a thing or two to say if I tried it 😁. Nice that you noticed the framing on my shots, though I should've placed camera back a few inches as I cut my feet off in a few moments. But always nice to have the effort appreciated 👍🏻

Lovely scenic view, Matt! Love these talks as well. I think many wouldn't mind these (waffles?) I'm American, so I'm not familiar with that term. But these sit downs. You have a great way of presenting content in such a lovely way, and it is calming. In a world where videos are over stimulated and everyone is in a rush and flashy colors and so-called music blasting in the background, your videos are a breath of fresh country air. Thank you. P.S. Miss seeing the Bonneville T120 and... May you please reach out to Freddie Dobbs for a collab? ...While you're at it, you could guide him in the venture of moto camping. He mentioned he did like it in his recent video. He is a very nice man from all appearances and seems awfully humble. Like you. I think many would love to see you gentlemen do a collab. Perhaps a cinematic motocamping one too. Or just riding for coffee. Many would enjoy the collab regardless. People have commented your name over on Freddie's channel several times.

Glad you liked it Neil. Yes I rode the 350 from Holy Island back down to near Manchester mostly on motorways. 60/65mph is where it's happiest, but I did do an hour or two at max speed of around 72mph and it was ok to be honest. Overtaking requires a bit more planning but once you get used to it it's totally fine, you just can't sit out in the fast lane for very long 😁

@@ClassicRides Hi, Ian. Thanks for your prompt reply. When you did your 2hr stretch at around 72mph, did you get the feeling that the engine was at all stressed, and on the verge of conking out, or did it leave you with the impression that it could have gone on a lot further (despite being on the very edge of its performance envelope)? 🙂
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 4 ай бұрын
@@neilyplim It feels like there's more in it, not a lot as you definitely know you're at the top end of it's performance but it's not too bad. Glad you like it, the light is an old 1970's Lumax fog light that I bought on ebay, then using a simple modern spotlight wiring harness it's just rigged up to the battery and a simple switch on the handlebar. Completely agree about the chin mounted cameras. I have a C5 helmet and the flip lid just doesn’t work with the weight. I have been using a chest Mount for a few months now and am very happy with it. Have a Leica camera and have had Panasonic LUMIX with the Leica lens. Superb lens.

Great video Matt! The RE looks awesome and the choice of place for this one was very good. It looks like the RE e is the right choice for this type of scenario and riding. 1 question pls. do you have any video on how to edit the footage of the Insta 360 that then shows the whole 360 degrees on the video, eg.. is it through a combination of frames or a setting on the camera? Thank you for replying! 👍👍
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 4 ай бұрын
Hi Nelio, I don't have any videos on that with the X4 yet, but I might do in the future if it's of interest to people. Usually for the full 360 shots I just have the camera in 360 mode, then I'll use the Insta Studio app on my Mac to reframe the footage to how I want, once that's done I can export it for use in Resolve when making my final video edit. It's a lot of extra work but the results can be worth it I think.

Newbie question about spokes on wheels! : I've heard that you are better off with tubeless tires because they can be repaired roadside. Is this true? Are spoked wheels more susceptible to flats? I think the spoked wheels look proper handsome on the classic.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 14 күн бұрын
I don't think either type is more prone to getting flats, but with tubeless tyres it's likely you can fix it yourself by the roadside and then carry on with your day. Traditionally spoked wheels need a bit more effort to remove the tyre and tube and replace it, and even some bikes like the T120 it's not possible to do this by hand, so good breakdown cover is a must!

I'm afraid I can't as I just bought it off ebay. It's a Lumax light from the 70's though, not sure which model number but there's usually a few to be found online. On the T120 you can't, the bike needs to be trailered away. ON the Classic I believe the tube can be taken out and repair at the side of the road, but personally I would just have it collected and taken to a garage to fit a new tube.

I’ll try again then, I agree with your reasons for getting the Enfield in regards to the mileage on the Bonnie & I think it’s a great choice. When you said in your introductory video “look at her she is beautiful” I thought yes she is, I have had half an eye on them for a while so much so that I should be taking delivery of 1 the same colour this week. It’s a 24 with 1200 miles & has had the camshaft & cat delete pipe added along with a few other extras which gives it an extra 5bhp in the bottom & mid range (I still have the Speed Twin) but I’m thinking when it gets a bit of a struggle for me I will have the Classic

25000miles on a T120 and not frequent driving it because it won't last and 3times more expensive as the Classic 350 which is advised to be revised at 100.000km, downgrading to a t120(premium) vs Classic(budget) doesn't add up. The Classic has euro5 engine(FI, cat), decent brakes,ABS and USB What would one expect from a classic design? I'd expect many retro bikes are set up similar. This is poor comment for both brands, I'd never buy a Triumph that'll last so little milage. thx for the insight. Griso and J350 owner
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 4 ай бұрын
I think either I haven't explained properly or you've misunderstood. The T120 is far from being worn out, but at the current rate that I'm adding miles to it, I'll be up to 100,000 miles in the next three years, and I want to keep the bike for longer than that. So having the second bike will help keep the T120 running for longer in terms of years, not milage. Having the Classic 350 as a second bike to the T120 makes perfect sense and judging by the amount of people I now know have these two bikes, it seems that I'm not alone in thinking this. I'm not sure I understand your point on the specs of the Classic, I didn't mention anything about what it comes equipped with?
@electrobob1
@electrobob1 4 ай бұрын
@@ClassicRides I'm not splitting hairs now ,but the J350 engine isnt old technology just like any retro bike it's euro5 compliant and a recent design. I've been keen on RE for 30years now but on the J350 they really catched up in quality and got me the 2024 redchrome with drive belt kit. On my Classic I have a chopper cruising mentality, 62mph is good enough not bothering everybody is passing me(so I have not to switch any lane). Swichting back a gear on a climb is totally fine and on this bike, it's rewarded with high mpg. It'll be hard to justify trading her in for the coming 500 for little more performance vs mpg. IMO the strongest point of the Classic is it's classic appearance. Trafficers do not expect it to be fast and do take proper distance when overtaking and do expect 62mph to be normal for a bike like this. Seems they think it has poor brakes as well because the do keep proper distance! For this reason a Scram411 or Meteor might feel one is the hunted on a highway. On a Classic, I feel very comfortable on a highway. Not sure if this is of all the chrome.

@@electrobob1 I don't disagree with you at all, I think we're on the same page about how good the Classic is. I just mean relative to modern bikes with riding modes, ride by wire, slipper clutches, traction control etc.. it's quite a basic bike, but I think that's a great thing. If anything I think it being a more basic/proper bike makes you a better rider in the end.
