Your latest posts feature the classic steelhead flies, I remember them. Living in Northern California, I have almost never seen any classic flies on anyone’s tippet fishing for steelies on the Chetco, Smith, Eel, and others, not saying that they are old traditional patterns. Do classical flies work in your area?

We done t have steelheads here in Australia. I tie streamers though for local species. Honesty. it' doesn't seem to matter what you do with these kinds of flies-it seems the fish will take anything no matter how gaudy! :-)

Yup, they do. This business is ruled by fashion that we're all guilty of forgetting that long before there were Intruders, these flies ruled. Bottom line, flies don't work if they're not fished. It's all about the confidence we have in them. As it has been said before, steelhead will take your car keys if they're in the mood to strike.

@@hooked4lifeca Yes. I wasn't being g critical-they are fascinating. I do like streamers-I tie small ones for trout and our bass here. I caught my first bass yesterday (I don't usually try for them) on a small dry fly., size 16!. :-)

So for durability you would use green thread instead of the yarn?

As an alternative to the method shown here, tie the green floss on using green or white thread to avoid the green being muddied up by black thread when wet. Here's a video that goes into the problem: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaPCeWioo56pd6M
