Bo doesn't know that..he just sees Archie with a bunch of short yardage plays, practically taking the ball every snap and only getting those large yards late in games. Genetically engineer another Bo, Archie, and Barry at their athletic heights and that Bo would know, followed by Barry Sanders, and then even Tyrone Wheatly, and Emitt, and I can think of a dozen other players far ahead of Archie - who didn't last too long in the NFL.
@zurn413 жыл бұрын
He didn't have many long dramatic runs. He had "consistent" short gains. Always positive yardage.

Archie had great balance, and was surprisingly powerful for his size. But the main word I would use to describe him is... relentless. They say about certain players "He gets stronger as the game goes on." Archie Griffin was THAT guy.

there's a game between Purdue and Ohio state in '69... Purdue was ranked #1 at the time... they had a RB named Leroy Keyes... legend has it that during a goal line stand, Jack Tatum hit Keyes so hard that it literally split his helmet in two. if you can ever find that.....

Hey I actually think this may be a challenge for you. Could you possibly do a Herschel Walker USFL and NFL highlights vid. No-one has great footage of his Pro Football days. He actually set the Pro Football Single rushing record and a lot of people don't know it. I think He's legendary and those highlights would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. I love this channel
@PockyCandy8 жыл бұрын
NFL is no for now, since they are extremely strict with copyright infringements stuff, and I don't want to risk this channel being shut down because of it. The USFL, on the other hand, is free to use as far as I know. I may do a USFL video eventually. PS: I wish that the NFL wasn't so strict on people using their footage. Otherwise, I'd make real-time highlights of all the great pro runningbacks!
@KillerBre78 жыл бұрын

During those Archie Griffin years, I was about 11 years old and I would take the bus to Ohio stadium, and sign up to sell Coke-a-cola as I walked throughout the stadium. I wasn’t there to make money. I was there to watch Archie. I’d stand in a gate and watch the game until an usher told me to move. I bet I only sold 4 trays of Coke the whole game.

@@quorthonschuldiner5197 here to provide context. Woody Hayes style of coaching for the Buckeyes was to hand off to Pete Johnson inside the red zone in 1975. Pete had 25 touchdowns, Archie had 4. But Archie would chew all the yards up to the red zone.

He ran wild against Michigan in that '73 game, yet they only scored 10 points. Should have been a national championship year. Defense pitched 3 shutouts, and gave up only 3 points twice. They destroyed USC in the Rose. Arch's senior year, they lost the Rose to a UCLA team they had destroyed during the season. Instead of 2 nat'l championships, Archie got 0.

It took an extra set of "these" ... to do what Archie Griffin did against a defense with 11 in the box all the time, for 3 consecutive 2 years - not just his Heisman years, but every year he played. back then, freshman didn't play in games, so the records he still holds could have been even harder to break. this, in the era when you could get tackled around the head, horse collars were normal, and still 9 to 11 in the box every down. no real threat of a pass play. not even Herschel Walker or Adrian Peterson can say that . OJ? forget about it. Jack Tatum took half the field away from OJ, and what he didn't take, he made him pay for.
@PockyCandy8 жыл бұрын
First of all, thank you for subscribing. Secondly, while Ohio State didn't have a great passing game (although it improved significantly from his freshman year to his senior campaign), Cornelius Green and Pete Johnson's fantastic running skills did take pressure off of Griffin.

+PockyCandy upon further review... I have seen a lot of football, I have been fortunate enough to find your channel, watch a lot of highlights that I wouldn't have been able to see....a lot of great moments, several great RB's over the years... and I can say without hesitation... and this is coming from a fan of the sport perspective, unbiased... I'm including Archie Griffin in this statement: I have never seen anyone as dynamic as Braxton Miller @ QB on the field. there's just no comparison that I could find in any previous decade. no, I'm not asking you to do a highlight reel, I'm being completely honest. I think enough video exists to support my claim.

+PockyCandy wait a minute.... even with corny, the box was stacked at least 8 deep... there was no play action to speak of, so much of the workload was on Archie...ol Woody Hayes didn't really open the playbook very often in his final days, Archie went a buck 80... that was a tough gig back then.

I don't care what anyone says and this is coming from an Ohio State fan but Archie is the biggest bust in NFL history! Leaf does come as a good runner up but at least he didn't be the only player to win 2 heismans and fall flat on his face in the NFL hell Leaf never even won the Heisman! And to top it all off he of course had to be drafted by my favorite NFL team the Bengals
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing7 жыл бұрын
He's drafted all the way at the bottom of the First Round!! How can he be the 'Biggest Bust' when all NFL teams knew he's way too small? And that he already had an NFL running back's wear and tear getting the ball on nearly EVERY Ohio State snap for 4 years? Take a look at the 1976 Draft; there's nothing but anonymous players drafted above and below him. A Bust MUST mean the team f&&ed up royally by not choosing someone drafted lower...As RB the 'mistake' is not drafting Tony Galbreath in the 2nd round.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing7 жыл бұрын
Maybe Archie is Ohio State Fans 'biggest bust' as greatest disappointment because they thought of Archie as son of God, who sits at the right hand of the Father Woody Hayes; and whose second coming in the NFL was supposed to bring heaven on Earth.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing7 жыл бұрын
A "BIG" Bust is when someone is drafted #1 or #2; top 5 at least; a Franchise Savior. NOBODY thought that about Archie. Archie didn't think that about Archie. Ron Dayne?? 11th overall; Holds record for most Rushing yards! I'm a NY Giant fanatic; I stopped paying ANY attention to the draft for a while after Ron Dayne; who cares, it means nothing; I didnt start watching or learning NCAA history till 2013. (GO BUCKEYES!!) Just tell me on Labor Day the names of the Rookies. So I was pleasantly surprised at Jeremy Shockey 2002. When I read up on the rookies there was a misprint, 'Jerome Shockey, TE Miami' I was expecting a Black guy to play TE in week 1; holy shit who IS this guy wearing #80!?!? Shockey's early seasons were Mark Bavaro with an attitude; except only Shockey changes direction to Initiate the hit on Strong Safeties expecting to level him. Sigh; the knees were toast by 2006. Luckily Tiki barber became a complete back; the way Pierre Thomas did what Reggie Bush couldn't.

Archie was just a little small for the NFL, everybody else was just as fast, and he got hurt.
@navmark777 жыл бұрын
Lots of stupid comments here. Archie didn't win the Heismans for what he did in the NFL. He won them for his brilliant college career. For the multiyear string of 100 yard games....in which he almost never played beyond the early third quarter. Look at this video. Consistently 3-5 yards gained AFTER CONTACT. Much more in most cases.
