Your facial expression when Sarah Jane Smith appeared was brilliant.
@TheElderBlotch2 жыл бұрын
You can immediately see why Sarah became such a popular companion with her guts, feistiness, inquiring mind, takes-no-shit attitude and of course, Elisabeth Sladen's being such a great actress. Not only is the first appearance of her and the Sontarans but also the first time the Doctor's planet is explicitly named Gallifrey. Yet another sterling contribution by Robert "Loremaster" Holmes. Irongron and Rubeish are two of the best side-characters ever, every line of theirs is a riot.

One of the most important stories in the series: the first appearance of the Sontarans (conceived by Robert Holmes as a satire of jingoism and militarism), the first appearance of Sarah Jane Smith and the first time the name Gallifrey is mentioned. It's also a great and fun story, and just like "The Time Meddler" from the First Doctor, it helped to establish the concept of alien villains in historical episodes. I easily place "The Time Warrior" in the Third Doctor's Top 10.

Lovely little story that says a lot about Jon Pertwee not being all ‘I’m the star.’ When Lis Sladen went for her audition for the Sarah Jane character, Producer Barry Letts was there (obviously) but so too was Jon Pertwee. Before her audition had even finished, Jon was standing behind Lis and giving his producer the thumbs up sign, as if to say, “yep, she’s the one,” and how right he was!
@DoctorWhoBookClub2 жыл бұрын
Well second Sarah Jane. April Walker was cast as the original Sarah Jane Smith and, after she was fired from the show, the producers paid her an entire season worth of salary. Glad they got Jon’s input to make sure the chemistry was right the second time around 👍

From what I understand Jon made sure that the company got along and that the guest artists were treated right and enjoyed making the show. @ryanpollard11662 жыл бұрын
"This planet has defied us ever since the great Commander Linx first staked his claim in the ground of its feeble soil!" - The Time Warrior is a major pivotal story in Doctor Who history. It not only introduced one of the most iconic monsters in the Sontarans, but also introduced one of, if not, the most iconic companions ever in Sarah Jane Smith (the Who companion I was introduced to first!) What's truly fascinating about Sarah's introduction is that she's not immediately likeable like Jo was. Sarah's more pushy, temperamental and believes the Doctor to be the villain for nearly three parts. Yet, she's more resourceful, independent and, by the end, saves the Doctor, not once but twice. Right away, Sarah makes a huge impression and Elisabeth Sladen is instantly sensational. Even the lone Sontaran is handled perfectly; Linx is a chilling creation, brought to life by the excellent Kevin Lindsay, and his unmasking at the end of part one is one impressive cliffhanger. No wonder after this, they kept bringing the Sontarans back and have them be as iconic as the Daleks or the Cybermen. This is still a story that cleverly combines history with science fiction and stands as one of the very best of the whole Pertwee Era.
@DoctorWhoBookClub2 жыл бұрын

Yes the wonderful Commander Lynx played brilliantly by Kevin Lindsay. He is a great character, played with the right amount of menace and introduces us to the Sontarans which if written correctly like Lynx is here in my opinion at least, can be really good foes for the Doctor. Also this story having the new titles and being Sarah Jane Smith's first story makes it extra special.

The man at 11.11 mark is Jeremy Bullock The Original BOBA FETT in The Empire Strikes Back.
Welcome to what many (but not all) feel to be the golden age of Doctor Who. It just gets better for a long, long time. Lovely reaction.

My first ever Who story, watching on video at the age of 5. Sontaran, Sarah Jane and so on, you cannot ask for a better introduction to Doctor Who for me all those years ago. Thing is, tho, I don't have a DVD of this one, because I saw the effects here [especially the opening shot of the ship] were different.

Every Sontaran who comes to Earth after this story refers back to Lynx claiming the planet in the first episode.
