@@tainted_HC I confirm there were no indications at all, as of where to go and what to pick up for a quest. It was '' go South East starting from that point '' etc. One of the most common thing was people asking questions about quest locations, and the most common answer was, of course, '' read the quest ''. There used to be an add on for quests but I've never used it. It seemed too tricky and I guess nerdy ( lol ) for me to dive into those add ons, and some people were saying it was illegal which I think wasn't true.

I've only played vanilla back in the day (never played after that) and from what I remember, you could summon to inside instance.. BUT the summoned party would appear at the entrance and would have to walk all the way to wherever the party was. I'm not entirely sure though. It was more than 10 years ago.

As I remember you cant summon from inside the dungeon someone who is outside. He had to get inside and then been summoned .

Summoning into instances was definitely not a feature in Vanilla (according to Wowwiki it was changed in patch 2.4.0). I played a warlock in vanilla and distinctly remember the annoyance of always having to run outside the instance to summon. Especially frustrating when I had to do it because someone didn't accept the first summon... :S

Yeah, there were no arrows in Vanilla. Shift clicking an item in the quest log displayed them to the right, that's it. Outside of reading the quest log for context clues, third-party websites and addons were the only quest helpers.

I remember being able to swim to GM Island as a level 1 night elf priest in vanilla, because mana regen was so fast that I could out-heal the fatigue damage. Pretty sure low level mana regain used to be pretty high since that was possible.

#1 - If my memory serves me right, there was no such thing as quest arrows or markers of any kind. #2 - I'm also quite sure people could not be summoned into an instance (or at least they startet at the Zone-In point).

#1 Wasn't it a yellow dot on the mini map when you had completed a quest were near a quest giver? Might be BC. #2 People could definitively not be summoned into instances, if there is one thing I'm sure of it's that. Remember so many times we had to run out of dungeons and raids to summon replacements or someone had forgotten something. It came in wrath I think, maybe BC.

@@remyd8767 from what others have said most of the comparisons are from private servers. Those servers did a lot of research on how the original game was, and their wrong much of the time. So memory is usually the best source for info on vanilla and if you believe science, memory itself is pretty faulty. Facts are seriously hard to come by if you don't trust what blizzard actually implements which is why I felt the no changes motto was a bit much to begin with. People will feel something should work differently regardless of the facts anyway so I'm pretty forgiving of the 'noticed' changes.

I think they did a great job of keeping some items from the new game. The quality of life changes are fine without really effecting gameplay. Also I am pretty sure they didn't have arrows in classic. You had to read the quests much more often. There was some kind of indicator on the map but I dont think it was an arrow, unless i am mistaken.

Just fyi, sweeping strikes could not be dodged in vanilla, so ultimately you couldn't overpower these secondary/tertiary targets. But you're right, when they dodged whirlwind/cleave, you could tab target overpower them. I hope the right people with vanilla experience do get access to beta so we can do some proper testing.

I wonder if you are able to do an old trick with food. Since the spells are in a batch. As a caster you can out of combat cast a spell on a target and spam your food before you get in combat. Only real point of this was to regenerate your mana after a big cast in pvp (if out of combat).

Yes and no. To me it seems they have created a vanilla version for the current player base, not the actual old school players. They are making too many changes already imo, and that takes away from vanilla. My primary example is access to mounts from the beginning. That's already a big red flag to me, and hopefully others. Blizzard hasn't learned from their failure. They are just trying to hook older players to come back. I was super excited to play vanilla again, but I won't be waiting for it anymore. I can already see the path they are going down.

One difference i noticed is that the Civilian NPCs in the starting zone do not have the faction icon on the unit frame. Look at Joana's 2006 leveling record video and you'll see all the quest givers are marked as PvP there and have the Horde icon.

Yeah dude, in vanilla you actually just had to read the quest text in order to figure out where to go. There was never any UI indicators involving the map; it only tracked objective progress. Obviously there were Addons you could get like Questie that would generate directional assistance -- but the game was designed around the premise that you legitimately just needed to comprehend written instruction.

I'd be miffed if they added quest map indicators. I get some people prefer to circumvent the reading comprehension aspect of quest completion, but I think it's an integral part of the game's inherent value -- I think that's one of the primary reasons why I dislike questing in retail WoW -- it's just a mindless "follow the arrow" game these days, instead of something which requires intellectual interpretation.

Originally in vanilla there were no intermediate stops when taking a flyer because you could only take the flyer to a flight point directly connected to the one you were at. Flying through multiple flight points on your way to your final destination wasn't added until either late vanilla or BC.

One issue with the wavy grass effect is when the "Grass" is actually supposed to be bones, you get ribs bending as you step near them in a lot of places (Mostly Plaguelands, dungeons, or BC and Wrath content but it can be annoying at times.)

Yeah, I understand when people want the no changes thing but with all honesty I also play on a couple pserver vanillas and wasting 15 mins of flight path when I forgot to do something (I didn't know about the log out mini cheat) was so frustrating. Not only did I waste silver/gold but time as well. I am happy they added the dismount/request next stop feature. Get ready for raging hunters and warlocks tho, as each soul shard will take inventory space/losing one whole bag slot potential for the ammo pack/quiver. If items didn't get a boost to stacking potential then yeah the inconvenience will still be there for your nostalgic love. Lol Not knowing how many slots you have left is extremely minor but hell it was actually helpful TBC and on... Anyway, just small stuff you will actually miss when it's gone. Sincerely hope you have fun tho!

I knew it! I remember back when I played vanilla the starting area took so long as a caster because of the regen rates. Going back to private servers something just felt off with the regen rates from the get go...You saying that they are way slower now makes so much sense! The original flight paths did not connect - you had to stop at every flight master and pick the next leg and take off again. There were maps on the web too so that you didn't take the wrong one. Don't remember when they added the multi-leg capability, but yea for a while you could not stop it once you chose a long FP unless you logged out.

No quest arrows on mini map. All you got was yellow dots for complete quests if you were in range. Heroic strike would queue up if you were out of range, and you had to drop your target to stop it.

Pretty sure there's an article saying that private servers had to adjust things since Private Server developers didn't have access to the actual numbers of the Vanilla server. Some examples are spawn rates and mob resistance/armor values. Blizzard always had the correct numbers, while private server just had no idea.

Quests used to say, "run northeast until you find this obscure cave, and in it you will find x obscure item" no arrows. No highlights. I spent hours looking for quests in the higher level areas and a lot of them i just abandoned all together out of frustration.

I'm in my late 30's now with 3 kids and I'm coming back to experience "Classic", just caught news of this a few weeks back and it made me so happy. My wife and my kids dont know that I used to game back then, so It'll be funny when they see me drag a desktop gaming computer into the house. Guess I'll have to give my daughters and my son the dog they've been asking for to make it even grounds. Now I've only known about this for a very little while, I haven't touched this game since 2006 or 2007 (dont remember which year exactly) but it seems to me that there is talks around the so-called minmaxing and whatnot? And others communicating in a mean matter since they've played either Vanilla or privateservers? I didn't even know private servers still existed. What is to realize is that the game is not about minmaxing and rushing through - take your time, the journey was interactive and fun, don't look down on those who hasn't played it. Hell, I guess I'm pretty rusty when it comes to gaming and especially WoW - I played back in the 2000's, but if the culture surrounding "Classic" is as bad as it seems when you scroll down comments on KZbin or any other forums, then I'll find the door myself and let the younger generation make it what they want it. There's no reason to overcomplicate the culture around it. I dont even remember 90% of the bosses names in the different dungeons and raids, but its been many years. What I do remember is the raids being challenging in the way that we had to figure out what the enemy did and at what times etc, but fairly easy once that was covered. I dont see any reason what so ever to minmax Classic. Especially all the talks around the worldbuffs - which in my case I rarely saw anyone having at raidnights, only a few people and only for certain parts - but never all of the buffs and never on more than, lets say, maximum 10 people. Make Classic the way you want it to be, you're going to experience all of it anyway.

those quest arrows were not there in vanilla, everyone installed quest helper mod to get that. The quest "tracking" on the right side of screen was there though. but no arrows. I remember a person on vent telling me that the "quest is over here my arrow is pointing to it" and I said what fkn arrow are you talking about? at that time quest helper had just come out and I didn't even know it existed yet. and i'm pretty sure a mod was still required for arrows even in tbc. ALSO : the gurubashi arena stuff brought back memories. that trinket in that chest caused people to do bad things >.>

Summoning from the inside someone outside of an instance was never possible in wow vanilla. You should not compare anything with private server, as you cannot be sure they run as wow vanilla was running. And obviously they don't.

Guido Salducci We know the differences. They have turned WoW into a child’s game that tells you exactly what you need to do without any danger while your hand is being held to do it. Some of us don’t actually need all of those “conveniences”. They took the RPG part out of WoW and many of us will be glad to see it come back. This game won’t be for everybody but no game is. The popularity of private servers shows that this game will draw enough players to stay relevant for quite a while.

tbh it worried me how u can easily stack up 3 scorpids in valley of trials and didnt really happened too much with the character hp.... :/ Also, if you shift clicked teh quest to show it on the side bar, only the starting zones quests worked with the arrow :) outside from there there were no arrow to show you the way

there was no individual "kodo riding, wolf riding" skill, you just needed exalted with the faction in order to buy the mount that was not for your race, for example orc had to get exalted with thunder bluff to get the kodo mount but they could get the wolf mount at any reputation standing with orgrimmar, you just had a universal riding skill

I am almost 100% sure there were no quest arrows when I first started playing the game. I don't even remember them in TBC, but I could be wrong. Also, I vaguely remember burning through all my food having it hotkeyed in 2006... so that may not be a bug lol. Despite the modern changes, I'll take it simply because the combat and NPC values are awesome.

I have a question since there are skills like 'gouge', which you have to use when you are in front of your opponent, or 'backstab', which you have to use from behind. Why 'blind' isn't one of those skills? Blinding someone from behind is just stupid. Or was it a bug on private servers that I played?
