@@MatthewHelmke The Hall of Fame was a cute in-and-out semi-reunion probably also motivated by saving face because of the vast fan criticism Rob, Glenn and Ian were seeing (if they were paying attention), so not because of innate maturity. Otherwise it would have happened earlier and would continue. Even current guitarist Richie Faulkner had very diplomatically lamented the situation where his band mates were refusing to see things from another perspective as to make good relations based on understanding. So in that performance there was still unresolved underlying issues, but every fan, even the ones who realize The RNRHOF actually is a ridiculous thing, can be happy for the classic JP members because it was meaningful to them. Keeping the fire alive 🔥 from the original to the newer bonfires born from it.

I saw priest... some 3 months ago here in Bogotá... along with the so called Pantera nonPantera... it was my fourth Priest show, and I gotta say it was the best. Rob is singing like he was 25... Scott Travis as awesome a drummer as always... and the new guys kicked arse! And they sure kicked Pantera's and everyone else's asses... long live to the Priest!

Love your enthusiasm for "The Priest" here, Doug!! I'm just going to add my voice to the many others that have already posted here in the same regard for the ultimate Judas Priest song. "VICTIM... OF CHANGES!!", from their classic, live, 1979 "Unleashed in the East" album. This song is considered to be second only in their ENTIRE catalog to "Painkiller". It has compositional, musical dynamics, galore. There are some, well-recognized, musical journalists that have pointed out how this song changed, or even ultimately defined, Heavy Metal. You can't go wrong, here.

I'm a huge fan of Judas Priest. Way back in 1983/84, Screaming For Vengeance was literally the first thing I bought with money from my first job (paper delivery route). That established, as a long time fan, this is rough to watch. To anyone thinking "What are you talking about?! That performance was badass!", do us both a favor and check out the 1983 live version of this song from Dortmund.

First song I ever heard by Priest when it came out on MTV. It is the first riff I remember ever getting stuck in my head. This song opened the door to "harder" metal for me and was one of those pivot points in music for me :)

Because of the timing of Judas Priests entry onto the world stage right between the giants of the late 60's/early 70's and the California Hair band era of the 80's, they find themselves in a unique place musically. When said and done, they just continued to peak, again and again till there was no where to go, so they just pummeled the scene with a couple more intense albums and called it a day IMO. When I saw them the 'fake' speakers under the raised drum riser parted like double doors and Halford rode his baby out front.

Appreciate your three reaction videos to Judas Priest. Have been listening to and seeing them in concerts for over 45 years. Please consider reacting to the live version of "Victim of Changes" at the U.S. music festival of 1983 in California. Also " Beyond the Realms of Death ". A live version would be great. These two songs are deeply rooted in the psychological problems we all potentially face. After hearing your reaction to Ren "Hi Ren" brings me, and I am sure many other music fans, to mental health issues we all might be keeping from others. I have seen them live a few times and they are killer live!!!! Rob basically never stops moving on stage. He can still wail with the best of them. My last time seeing them was pre- Covid when they opened for Deep Purple. What a double bill! Slight correction Doug, this version had Scott Travis on drums not Dave Holland, Scott joined the band in 1990 and is still there. More Priest needed, songs like Hammer and the Anvil, Blood Red Skies, Beyond the Realms of Death, Night Crawler. I could go on forever. Love your reactions. Ya, I thought Doug's piano riffing could have made an excellent accompzmiment. I think the blues influence comes mostly from Glenn...you can hear it in many of his solos, moreso than in KK's.

Ian Hill is fundamentally a jazz bassist, having learned it from his jazz bassist father. He provides the bluesy foundation. Ian is too often overlooked. He's solid. Not a busy bassist or glamorous but he is the foundation of it all. Of course, Priest started as a blues-based hard rock band. They were likely the first metal band to largely shed the blues for a whole album when they made British Steel.

I had this album shortly after it came out. My first metal album. Picture me as a naive freshman in high school sitting on the floor in my bedroom with my jaw on the floor. Fast forward to Nov 10, 1990, Painkiller tour, San Diego. I took my fiance, aHUGE Priest fan, to see them along with Megadeth and Testament. What a show!!

You can tell even back then that Rob was struggling with the high notes. I know it's the end of the show, but when you sing that high in the 70's and 80's, it's no wonder it becomes difficult 30/40/50 years later. I can't hit high notes at all anymore and I'm the same age Halford was here.
