"Classical Gas" instrumental piece composed and originally performed by American guitarist Mason Williams with instrumental backing by members of the Wrecking Crew. Originally released in 1968 it was a huge hit and it has been rerecorded and rereleased numerous times since by Williams.

Cool improvising on@ 2:30-2:40 I love when someone does a cover and improvises a bit, not to change the song up but to add some of originality to it-an interpretation if you will. That's what I do, and I'm glad to see a great payer like yourself do the same. Even your style of playing is just different enough throughout out the song-it's original, not a robot trying to play exactly like the original song or artist. Two thumbs way up.

The best version out there imho. Many versions tend to slow the tempo on the difficult passages. He also includes the brass section which is really cool. Bravo!

Dr Francis Schaefer Ph.d in his book & film series “How Should We Then Live?” Says Classical Gas is THE definitive musical wok depicting the struggle between good and evil and with the resolution heard it’s good that triumphs over evil -as expressed in this great guitar masterpiece ! It DOES sound like that eternal war that has been going on for epochs of time of good vs evil !

It would be hard to say that logic is not directly out of Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil", but I want to argue musically. To me this piece is motivational, like Lose Yourself by Eminem: it's a bit dark, but it's also get up and play hard. Schaefer was making an uglier comment, like Nietzsche he was struggling with "is there a defensible reason to just keep living?" They both were extremely angry at the idea of mediocrity...plus heartbreak, that got reeeeeally bad Away from philosophy, back to music. I feel that Beethoven was better at "how life is"...his music says "hit me again bitch", which I think fits what I think Schaefer was getting at. A sort of "walk it the F off" which stands straight against Nietzsche, but I think they would've got along...they were both ass holes lol Ayn Rand would've been in this meeting too, she was big on "ohhh shut uuuup!"

I appreciate the fact that you included the brass section that occurs on the record after the first chorus, but isn't usually included on acoustic versions (even Mason Williams left it out of his solo re-recording of the tune). It's an important part of the piece, as it involves a massive key change and provides an exciting bridge to the section that lingers on A minor for 8 bars. 👍
