As a life long scale model plane builder and amateur flamenco and folk guitarist, I was fascinated with your home-made precision jigs and other building solutions as well as the sureness with which to cut and shape materials. I wonder how Yamaha and other volume guitar makers automate the wonderful hand work of luthiers.

Beautiful inspiring video. Love the way you use your tools and got your son involved in learning the joy of shaping wood. I think you could teach a lot on the use of tools - why you do smooth strokes. I like the book matching on the headstock. Got to admit that I like headstocks that are not book matched, if they have interesting grain etc. Looking at your jig I recognised that I don't need so many tools as I thought to build a guitar. This surely is harping back to some of the original techniques of building instruments, but you have a nice clean modern twist on it. Music was great. It completed the video very nicely. This video is very therapeutic.

Isnt the neck going to bow back because you're applying the fretboard to it and attaching it to the body before you're carving it? Good looking result though
@Stephenmboone7 жыл бұрын
No. This method has been used for centuries.

Stephen Boone interesting I didn't know. I must admit that I never saw any classical builds like this, mostly electric stuff.

The concern is understandable but as long as the glue is dried and everything stable before carving there is no trouble. I still play this guitar daily and am very pleased with it after nearly five years.

Why is the neck formed after it has been glued to the guitar instead of being formed before?
@Stephenmboone3 жыл бұрын
I should have done a bit more before affixing the neck to the ribs. In this method of construction the neck is part of the body and not made separately to be attached later. There will always be some neck refinement needed after the body is complete. I left myself quite a lot of work here and would have been smart to shape things a bit more earlier in the process but it worked out in the end.
