6:51 i believe that instalation is the reference to Christian Boltanski's instalation Mountain of clothes, that indeed represent lost lives, interesting fact that V (Kim Taehyung) who is male actor in this music video is a singer of group BTS and BTS have song Spring Day that also incudes imagery of mountain of clothes inspired by Christian Boltanski, also because theme of the song is loss I got to know Christian Boltanski through BTS, and was lucky to visit his retrospection exhibit in Center Pompidou in Paris in February 2020, he heavily worked with topic of loss and has various imagery of the pile of clothes, also i believe there was some of his works in exhibition in 2022-2023 so i thin k the director took inspiration there as well

I really enjoyed this reaction. The mail actor in Love Wins All recently released a jazzsong that is labeled "K-pop". I would like you to pick apart "Winter Ahead" with (and by) V (Kim Taehyung) and Park Hyo Shin. If you want to focus on the music and the voices I recomend the Cinematic Still MV version allthough the MV with the story is a masterpiece. There is also a fine version with a jazztrio (only sound). The composer is the pianist for IU's house band on her 'Pallete' web interview show. He makes an appearance in the 'making of' studio session video where IU jokes he's arrived just in time to watch her cough up blood and die (She had a savage case of the flu while recording). IU is 31 and 17 years in the business.

IU's respect for V or TaeHyung's work was also noticed by Bing Crosby's family, who invited him to do the first digitally assembled duet and when the version of "White Christmas" was ready, not only the harmony between the two was admirable, but the respect with which TaeHyung sang, without exaggeration or anything that made him stand out too much, just a fan grateful for the opportunity with his deep baritone voice that one day Íris Svensson, the conductor which inspired Whoopi Goldberg in "Change of Habit" to praise him saying that his voice had the gift of moving people. TaeHyung's album 'Layover' is a pleasant surprise even for IU, who interviewed him on the show Palette where he made it clear that he could have followed the crowd market and appealed to pop and big dance moves, after all he is a BTS , but he wanted to make music for people who liked music... and if possible, please watch "WINTER AHEAD" by V... it's beautiful, and he wrote it with grammy winner Jesse Harris who composed it for Norah Jones.... the presence of the jazz school with unexpected sound effects, in addition to the beautiful plot and participation of fellow Korean Park Hyo Shin transformed the song into something that would never be expected in kpop. They started to follow him and found that he is a great jazz lover and a long-time fan of Bing. Bing's last collab was with David Bowie, a year before Bing's passing. Then Mary and her family discovered Taehyung and they invited him for this collaboration.

It was a sincere thank you and few, only those who understand what respect and admiration are understood how V loves, respects and admires art, so perhaps using the image of your dog on the poster and this was not taken as an offense, but the family understood that he paid homage to a companion that he could lose at any moment, and upon learning that he lost him he paid tribute in the mv too... because you noticed that there is a video with collage images and this animated mv... that's how I understand it! !!

IU is a stunning performer and sweetheart of South Korea. She has been in the industry for 17 years and has such a lovely personality. The male lead in the video is V, real name Kim Taehyung, from the group BTS. I can thiroughly recommend the song Lie by fellow BTS member Jimin. Musically it is a great piece of art. Jimin is also a trained contempory dancer so the song is at it's best for interpretation by understanding the conbination of the music with tge lyrics and interpretive dance.

She was looking quite vulnerable and fragile, but her mental strength carried her through until the recording was finished. And she has quite a wry sense of humor as she jokes with her producer.

As a fellow musician and kpop listener, loved this reaction! I highly recommend you react/respond to another one of IU's ballads called Dear Name (이름에게). There is a "Special Clip" live video, but I really think it's best to listen to the original studio version first, as you are someone who listens closely to the details, and the official studio version is carefully recorded and arranged the way it's supposed to be heard.

It's great to hear from people who understand what is being conveyed. I love music and I love this song in particular for the beauty and intelligence that was put into it but also for all the pieces that make it up, from the lyrics, the direction that is done by an award-winning director of disaster films, the voice of IU who never disappoints me because she sings just like that, in the last show of the tour in which a special video was made she sings to a packed stadium and does it with mastery, in addition to the interpretation of being a wonderful actress and here accompanied by the also singer and actor who has many singularities and one of them is that good music gave birth to this friendship. Kim TaeHyung or V of BTS as he is known was a week away from going to military service where he is now doing his training and accepted IU's invitation as soon as he heard the song because he is also passionate about classical music and jazz, following a path Unlike his friends, he chose not to go the pop route and made his solo work focused on the classics with touches of modernity and surprising beauty.

IU is an amazing artist. From what I have read and heard her music and acting is top tier. I don’t know a lot about her music so I won’t even attempt to pretend I do. She is co starring with V, Kim Taehyung member of the most famous boy band world wide. That is how I know of her. It would have been nice if they would have sang this song together cause they sing beautifully together. They sing her song called ENDING SCENE on her show IU’s Pallet. It was a surprise when they spoke about their close friendship on the show. No one knew until they mentioned it. I really love this song and video. Her voice is angelic. Their acting is fantastic. He is an outstanding vocalist, musician, composer, and performer. He has a solo album out called LAYOVER. It is a no skip album. He has 5 music videos for it. I suggest you check out his video album in order. All the Videos are great. V is not your typical kpop artist. His music is not kpop at all. He loves Jazz and R&B and if you like real music then he is your guy. I also suggest you watch him on TINY DESK KOREA with V on KZbin BANGTAN channel. For this album he chose to sing the songs on stage live for his fans in different music shows. His vocals are wonderful live. V is known for his honey smooth velvety baritone vocals, but he can also sing those high notes. Taehyung is a very interesting person. He is a bit eccentric and charming. He is the most popular Kpop artist in the world. He is called the Idol of idols, King of the Stage, and South Korea’s National Treasure. He is also famous for being THE MOST HANDSOME MAN IN THE WORLD from 2017 to 2024. He is currently serving in SK military as an Army Police Officer for Special Duty Training, special forces.

English captions while playing the video might still be helpful though. The vlog of IU recording this song while sick is mind blowing. She is such an amazing talent. I was fortunate enough to attend her concert last year. After she finishes her planned set list for the show, she solicits suggestions of songs from the audience and will continue to sing impromptu until the venue closing time. As a classical musician, you should check out the song "Lie" by BTS (sung by Jimin, one of the vocalists) and "Snooze" by Agust D (one of BTS' rappers); Agust D (aka SUGA) is one of BTS' main producers and lyricists and the song "Snooze" was one of (if not thee last) pieces that Ryuichi Sakamoto played on before he passed away.

That’s really so cool & knowing I.U. was so sick during both the MV & song recording, I continue to fall in love with her voice. Of course, V of BTS (MV ML) is my all time favorite and I’m ARMY, the fandom for BTS, so I absolutely loved this video. It was directed by a very well-known movie director, sorry can’t recall his details, but it’s impressive, IU has worked with him before as she is also an excellent actress and V is, too, he has had a role in a popular K-Drama series so both were amazing in bringing the song & storyline to life. Dear friend, I stumbled upon your reaction and I absolutely loved it: you have a new subscriber 🙂 greetings from Italy! I know that I am going to be super detailed but I wanted to give you a little context. IU is a singer-songwriter born in 1993 who debuted incredibly young in 2008. She is much loved in South Korea and has an incredibly high reputation in the industry. She is good friend with some of the members of BTS' group, especially with Suga (stage name for Min Yoongi) who is a rapper, composer, lyricist, main producer in the group. They already collaborated in the past, when he produced and appeared in her song "Eight". She also collaborated with him appearing in his song "People pt. 2", from his latest album "D-Day" published in 2023. IU participated in one episode of "Suchwita", BTS Suga's format on KZbin where he invites other artists, actors, etc. and they have a one-to-one open hearted conversation in front of a drink. Suga also participated in one episode of "IU's Palette", her format on KZbin. Also BTS members' J-Hope and V participated as well. The male character you see in the video with IU is precisely V (Kim Taehyung), the second youngest member of BTS. They shot this video end November/beginning December 2023. At that time IU was really sick with a bad flu and V was enlisting in the military a few days later. All BTS members are currently serving their country in the military (in South Korea it's mandatory for all men and the average duration is 18 months); only two members, who enlisted before, have been already discharged (Jin and J-Hope), while the others will be discharged in June this year. V is known for his smooth baritone voice and his love for jazz, soul and r&b which is reflected in his solo work. He published his first solo album "Layover" in 3rd Q of 2023. Before enlisting, just like the other members, he also prepared some solo works which have been released during his service. More specifically, end November he released "Winter Ahead", a jazz song where he duets with Park Hyo-Shin, a very well known singer-songwriter (who also V's very good friend). There is an official MV and a cinematic version featuring both singers (very nice and with a vintage touch) A few days later there was the release of "White Christmas" by the Bing Crosby Estate. A duet featuring V and Bing Crosby, who is one of V's inspirations and "muse". Bing Crosby's family decided to contact V's agency and propose this collaboration, the first since 1977 with David Bowie when Bing was still alive. The video is a very sweet animation, where V's dog is featured together with Bing Crosby. V's dog, a Pomeranian named Yeontan (Tannie), was very well known and loved by BTS's fans. Unfortunately it was a puppy with health issues, and in spite of all the treatments unfortunately it passed at the beginning of December. When V published his solo EP, the cover of the album is a photo of Yeontan, and it also appears in most of the MVs of the album (the MVs were shot in Spain and Tannie could not afford the stress of a flight, therefore he had to find a substitute...). Tannie also appeared on stage with V during a live performance. V said he wanted to create beautiful memories with his dearest Tannie. Since the animation of "White Christmas" was finalised just before the release, the animators put Tannie's constellation in the sky, a sweet way to remember this beloved puppy.

I love this style of analysis, especially of k-pop music. You'll find that it is usually more elevated in quality, much more intentional with the music and voices. Which is one reasons why it is so popular these days.

Really enjoyed your analysis, glad you did some research, get so tired of these reactors who have no idea what they are listening to and then ask us to tell them what is going on. There are some BTS songs which you may find interesting. Try "House of Cards", "Truth untold" stage mix.

I believe that one interpretation of this piece is that the faceless cube (theBorg??) represents media and social media and the destruction the cube ruthlessly inflicts is indicative of how people protected by the anonymity of the internet destroy other people's lives. Notice them throwing tapes and dvd's at pictures of them on the wall. You made a very valid inference to how the video camera hides all the imperfections that people don't want to see. Again the voices that you mention could also represent the way that people feel that they have the right to say what ever they want to, regardless of whether there is truth or validity to what they are saying, and how it affects the people concerned.

Ah! the Borg! I'm no stranger to that entity in the ST:TNG universe. Interesting connection. I may have misled when I may have said the video camera "hides" imperfections, for in truth, it really is quite ruthless in what it captures in its raw form, but what is ultimately published to social media is specifically curated and often filtered or editted to present a specific view or altered reality. In another manner of speaking, the lens is a gateway for us to see what we (could) wish to see?

Along with the other great choices in this song, yes, they left her voice alone, no harmony or doubling - because they are the last people in the world. I never noticed that layer of "ghost voices" which seem to me to be echoes of the people already taken away. That's why they are almost wordless.

É muito bom ouvir pessoas que entendem do que está sendo transmitido. Eu amo música e amo esta música em particular pela beleza e inteligência que foi colocada nela mas também por todas as peças que a compõem, desde a letra, a direção que é feita por um diretor premiado por filmes de catástrofe, a voz da IU que nunca me decepciona porque ela canta assim mesmo, no último show da turnê que foi feito um vídeo especial ela canta para um estádio lotado e o faz com maestria, além da interpretação de ser uma atriz maravilhosa e aqui acompanhada pelo também cantor e ator que tem muitas singularidades e uma delas é que a boa música fez nascer esta amizade. Kim TaeHyung ou V do BTS como é conhecido estava a uma semana de ir para o serviço militar onde está agora fazendo seu treinamento e aceitou o convite de IU assim que ouviu a música porque também é um apaixonado por música clássica e jazz, seguindo um caminho diferente de seus amigos ele escolheu não ir pelo caminho do pop e fez seus trabalhos solos voltados para os clássicos com toques de modernidade e beleza surpreendentes. Esse respeito foi percebido pela família de Bing Crosby que o convidou para fazer o primeiro dueto montado digitalmente e quando a versão de "White Christmas" ficou pronto foi admirável não só a harmonia dos dois, mas o respeito com que TaeHyung cantou, sem exageros ou algo que o destacasse demais, apenas um fã agradecido pela oportunidade com sua voz profunda de barítono que um dia Íris Svensson, a maestrina que inspirou Whoopi Goldberg em "Mudança de Hábito" a elogiar ele dizendo que sua voz tinha o dom de emocionar as pessoas. O álbum 'Layover' de TaeHyung é uma grata surpresa até para IU, que o entrevistou no programa Palette onde ele deixou claro que ele podia ter seguido o mercado das multidões e apelar para o pop e grandes passos de dança, afinal ele é um BTS, mas ele queria fazer música para pessoas que gostavam de música... e se possível, por favor assista "WINTER AHEAD" by V... é belíssimo, e ele escreveu com o ganhador do grammy Jesse Harris que compôs para Norah Jones.... a presença da escola de jazz com efeitos sonoros inesperados, além do belo enredo e participação do também coreano Park Hyo Shin transformou a música em algo que jamais se esperaria no kpop. This was a really great reaction. IU is incredibly talented and the darling of South Korea for a very good reason. This song and its video are so special. I hope you’ll do a reaction to her co-star in this video V’s band, BTS. They have been involved in the songwriting and production of their music since their debut 11-1/2 years ago. I recommend Black Swan for you (both the main and instrumental versions), Lie, ON, and The Truth Untold to start. I think if you watch live performances you will have the experience you prefer, because BTS sing live in concerts and you can hear that even if there is some backing track to support them during strenuous parts of their choreography. We ARMY always say that BTS is even better in concert than they are in the studio.

Great select - IU and anyone from BTS is worth a listen. Very talented. I would challenge you to also check out an amazing artist from the Chinese Pop Music scene. Zhou Shen aka Charlie. He is a very gifted singer performer. His recent album ShenSelf is wonderful. His voice is indescribable. He always sings live and is truly gifted. His voice resonates at a healing frequency and is unmatched. He can sing any genre as if he is a master of that particular genre. Check out his version of Moonlight. His voice sounds like a flute or violin - its hard to explain until you hear him. He is very popular in China and just announced his first world tour. You wont regret checking him out. In addition to his album and Moonlight - check out his OST Decoded. He has hundreds of performances. He just did over 10 songs/performances for NYE alone. Prolific stage performer.

I'm not sure I would label IU as representative of k-pop per se. She is popular in South Korea, but the term k-pop actually doesn't mean pop music but is a part of the music industry there with a set of characteristics that really have nothing to do with genre or popularity (it's referred to as idol music in SK and isn't necessarily "pop" music), but is more about star training and integrated media and performance. There is a lot of good music that comes out of Korea and it all gets labeled as K-pop when that really isn't the case. Please, anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but in this case I don't believe I am. 💜

This is an interesting observation and one i hadn’t considered. The Wikipedia page entry didn’t really make it much clearer for me, but I think my use of the term was the broader, more generalized, application. I should probably be more careful with future use of term however, especially if I want to look at artists in SK who are pushing the boundaries of the industry or otherwise outside of the big production houses like SM or YG.
