Absolutely love the 'DOOM' 'Doom' 'Doom' from Geoff when it comes in for the beat change. Not just because it's the sound of a plucked bass, but also that it literally says 'DOOM' is near.

It's another one of VoicePlay's complex arrangements. Yet it fits with the storyline so well. J None's line at the end always makes me tickled by how quickly he runs up the notes.

I believe this was the first time that all four generations’ of Voiceplay baritones were united on set: Layne (who was their original baritone), Tony (who joined when Scott left and Layne took over beatbox), J None and Cesar. Tony was helping Layne direct. It’s hard to direct when you’re on camera. Tony often helps with directing, but it wasn’t until Hellfire that we got a video with all four on camera!

Oogie Boogie was also a Disney Villain song. Fun fact: Geoff was going to be the villain in this one but when they found out J was available they featured him and he was perfect! You commented on some of my favorite parts of this that most others have not… Eli’s shreik in the beginning, the chicken from Moana, the “magical” harmonies at around 11:38 the “word painting” of “hopping place to place” around 14:25. I love the visuals in this one, the characters and of course the arrangement is so clever. I also really appreciated a couple of J’s runs around 2:28 and 15:52.

Didn't think The Nightmare Before Christmas was Disney Just had a google for our daily bit of trivia: " The Nightmare Before Christmas was originally going to be released under Walt Disney Pictures as part of the Walt Disney Feature Animation lineup, but Disney decided to release the film under the studio's adult-oriented Touchstone Pictures banner, because the studio thought the film would be "too dark and scary for kids" "

As far as I’m concerned, VP is the best a cappella group. Peter Hollens will always be my first (& deepest) love. Peter Hollens & VoicePlay both cover Hellfire magnificently. If you’re interested in a 6 octave tour de force, listen to Tomi P’s solo deep bass a cappella Hellfire cover. Tomi only covers 5 octaves in cover of My Mother Told Me; but he doesn’t play fair, he appears shirtless. My favorite Tomi P’s cover is Billie Eilish’s No Time To Die. I know Tomi is too obscure for a reaction; but since I believe you enjoy The Bass Gang (he is a member), you might personally enjoy his work.

Great reaction and analysis. This one is so up Voiceplay's street, isn't it?. They do theatrical so well and this one looked like a lot of fun. They are very imaginative in their responses to these covers. It did make me laugh when they had Hei Hei from Moana in there (glad you spotted that too!). I really liked what Geoff and Laine brought to this one and obviously J-None, Eli and Cesar sound phenomenal as always. I think you would like the Princess and the Frog. It's set in New Orleans in the 1920s (as I think you guessed from this song!). The inspiration for Tiana was a real life pioneer of African-American cuisine, Leah Chase, who ran a restaurant called Dooky Chase. She was known as the Queen of Creole Cuisine. There is a lot of 1920s New Orleans-inspired music in the film.

As always, your analysis helps me pick out the parts and catch the subtleties of harmony - and dissonance, which is especially important with jazz. Something interesting... While I listened here, I checked online to see if J. None is still in the Navy. He is, and they apparently have him singing bass. Never thought of him as a bass. Have you checked out any of the Dutch Tenors' stuff? I love their "Never Enough," and they just released Billy Joel's "And So It Goes." Love them.
