THIS CLIP
Trekkies delight! Brilliant Spanish soprano Laura Ruhí Vidal (www.lauraruhivi...) 'warms up' for her appearance with the Rainer Hersch Orkestra by singing a parody of the theme to the original series of Star Trek. With its original cast of characters: James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Leonard 'Bones' McCoy (DeForest Kelly), Scotty (James Doohan), Sulu (George Takei) and Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), this was one of the most beloved TV shows of the sixties. The "Theme from Star Trek" (originally scored under the title "Where No Man Has Gone Before") was composed by Alexander Courage. The original soprano in the studio recording was Loulie Jean Norman.
Thanks to all those people who have posted lyrics. Laura Ruhí Vidal either didn't know them or preferred not to sing them. They probably mean even less to a Spanish-speaker than they do if you are an English-speaking native. Anyway, for the record, they are:
Beyond
The rim of the star-light
My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me.
According to the web: "Without Courage's knowledge, Gene Roddenberry, who created the original Star Trek TV series, wrote these lyrics to Courage's tune, not in the expectation that they would ever be performed but in order to claim a 50% share of the music's performance royalties. Although there was never any litigation, Courage later commented that he considered Roddenberry's conduct unethical. Roddenberry was quoted as responding, "Hey, I have to get some money somewhere. I'm sure not gonna get it out of the profits of Star Trek." Well, he got that wrong.
This performance took place at Cadogan Hall, London as part of the Rainer Hersch Orkestra's 'New Year's Eve Bash 2019'. Tickets for the 2020 NYE Bash are on sale here cadoganhall.co... The Rainer Hersch Orkestra is composed of violins, violas, cellos, double bass, clarinet, French horn, piano and percussion - together, they create the funniest classical music on the web. Please subscribe to this channel and spread the word. THANKS!

Gene Roddenberry wasn't "good". The original theme music was written by Alexander Courage and Roddenberry wrote lyrics to the theme which were never used in the television series. However, due to Roddenberry's "contribution", he got a 50% cut of the royalties until his death, cheating Courage out of quite a bit of money.
