i'm 24. been a grungy rebellious metalhead since i was a teenager, i grew up on my punk mom's rock n roll, and found my love of heavy metal through that. over the last few years, though, i've been listening to a lot of old 30s-thru-50s music due to taking care of my grandpa, who's been suffering from dementia. he loves this stuff. hearing music in the background of a house for long enough makes you sort of accustomed to it. i realized that i actually _really_ like a lot of this genre/era of music. there's a feel that's hard to pinpoint, but it's a good one. we're not sure how long my grandpa is gonna last, these days, he's bedridden and he barely remembers/recognizes anything around him. all he _can_ do is lay in bed and listen to music. i've been putting this video on for him to listen to, as well as some other compilations of this era from your channel, and even if he's past the point of speaking coherently or much at all, i can tell he's enjoying himself. i often catch him mouthing along to some of the songs. there's still a little bit of him left in there, and it's the music. i know i'm gonna come back to this channel for comfort when he's gone, but for the moment, this is a really beautiful compilation. thank you for making this, both for my grandpa's sake, and for opening my eyes to new genres/eras. i hope you have happy holidays. 💚

I have a wide musical range, including metal, punk, edm, hip hop. my nan recently passed right before I was going to move back in, and I’ve been CRAVING this music in a way, and it found me. I can’t listen to her records anymore but I can come here- and just in time. She had a Christmas tree in every damn room every damn year. my family pushed me out of the estate and took the house, I’ll never have Christmas with her again. I’m sorry for your loss, I know I wasn’t ready. Grief is so complicated and the pieces of life that keep their spirit alive for us are the best things.

@@travistracht7160 i wish it worked like that, haha. he's almost 90 years old, and is currently in the final stage of lewy body dementia. he developed a kennedy ulcer just a few days ago, which indicates that his skin as an organ is failing/dying. he probably won't last more than a few months now. thank you for the suggestion, but i really don't think it would do much of anything at this stage. he's just reached the near-end, i think.

Ella and the mills brothers. No instruments accept tenor guitar. Ella used to live on the same street as the brothers, riding her bike up and down the street as a child singing her head off. The brothers gave her her start in music, and the rest is history.

I could buy a suit for $18 off the rack and have it tailored for 2 and a bit. Shirts 3 for less than $3 and kerchiefs a pack of 3 for a 25c. Larry Tierney used to chide me for hitting on the candy and popcorn girls, heh, he used to steal my zippos all the time. I do miss the running boards, I had my v12 36' Packard til I traded it in after the war for a new 49' Caddy...God I loved that car, hydraulic windows and everything. I used to go to the picture show in the old Irish channel off Magazine St. for a nickel and watch William Powell in S.S Van Dine flickers...I know the words to all these, thank you kindly for adding them here. Warmest regards.
@92xl29 күн бұрын
exactly how old are you? 1930 was 96 years ago and if you were buying suits and driving Packards you had to have been in your 20's in the 30's......that would conservatively put you at 110 years old today.
@danom357229 күн бұрын
Conservatively...yes. I'll say this, everything I said was true, I went to a little theater called the Garden, Garden or Independent, smaller of the 2. I was friends with Larry, he played that Dillinger fella, could never have him spend the night, he'd never leave! I did have a chance to get a Tucker but I didn't have much faith in the car, tell the truth, weren't nothing wrong with the Edsel either, was just ugly. That and since they didnt make cars during the war a lot of folks just got used to not running out and switching cars like today. Ended up with an ole catfish grill 64 Tbird, had that slide away drivers wheel. Eventually stuck an 8 track under the console, Texas and Louisiana had a lot of nothing for miles. And when the Kmarts closed was probably the last I bought as many packs of kerchiefs as I could. That and had gone to a family owned tailor and cobbler off St.Charles, but those all closed down round the time they started letting fast food chains into the parish, bout 30 years ago maybe. I miss the newsies, then the stands went and finally the quarter machines. My eyes are bad but I'd still rather read. Anyhow none of its important, music just made me miss a few things...like having an extra shirt in the boot because women's makeup didn't wash out like it does today!

Dude, you did not buy a '36 Packard, and then trade it in for a new '49 Caddy...75 years ago! But you are an excellent storyteller and writer! Your words: Irish Channel, Magazine St., The Garden, took me back to when I was a child in N'awlins, and I am now an 80-yr-old "geezer". A good story and hazy memories...the best time machine! Thank you, Danom. Or is it "daemon"?
