Sandy Koufax would have started this game under normal circumstances but due to the fact it was Yom Kippur Koufax who is jewish made the decision to not pitch in this game. And that descion was fine with his Dodger team mates

After the game one of the reporters quipped, “Bet Alston wishes Drysdale was Jewish too!”
