Your idea and weathering is so cool. Its like a backward process with applying rust first and then the paint that survived the suns rays. The Hudson looks great.

After you sponged the 1st coat of blue, you never said how u did the rest? Was it a spray can? Or kept dabbing? Paint looks really smooth bud

The final product looks like basically what it is. I mean to say, it looks like the car was rust color then someone dumped blue paint on it. I feel like you are doing this backwards. Perhaps start blue and instead of using a rust colored paint use powders to make the blue paint look rusty? After each layer of powder use a thin clear coat and build layers? The other problem I have is you're going for a patina look, yet the bumpers, which are the most susceptible to rust look brand new? Also a good trick to age metal is use a dremel tool or grinder with a wire brush to make the metal look pitted.

Car shown in the beginning had gold grille and a sporty wheels however in the end the look chrome and stock rim how?
@MossRods8 жыл бұрын
I painted the base of the car (the grill and bumpers) with a silver paint and I swapped the wheels for matchbox ones and painted those. I didn't include those because it saved on time and it wasn't the point of the video

IAMREESE not sure, I only use water and oil based paint. clear works fine on those

Yes, you can. My cars are painted with water based acrylics and I clear them with either Krylon or Rust-o-leum.

Is that all water asked paint? Besides the primer?
@MossRods7 жыл бұрын
MYNAMEISREISS yes the paints are water based but you can use oil or water, water tends to blend more than oil which can be either a good thing or a bad thing

Umm... you really confused me when the title card said "Patina Painting Model Cars". Model cars are nice, but I really like customizing hot wheels and matchbox cars. Thankfully the title card was wrong!!!

Sorry, I'm not complaining. I just groaned when I saw the title. As I said models are fine but I wanted to see hot wheels. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed your video!!!

Why do you like to have rusty cars? What is the pleasure here?
@MossRods8 жыл бұрын
Ryu's Vlogs it's just a look that some people like. People like it because it's natural and it shows the history of the car and some just like it for the way it looks, the rat rod / rat look style is really big now. I like how patina looks so I like painting the cars like that, I also like painting them to look rusty because I use them in dioramas where the abandoned car can be sitting in a field or behind a barn
@RYO928 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. :)

As you might have noticed in the year since this video was put up here, the rust patina look has exploded in the car world. Velocity Channel has a hit show called "Vegas Rat Rods". I think the popularity of the rust patina look is quite a way from peaking as well. Right now there is big money being spent on cars having just the right balance of rust and paint that very little needs to be done with the body. I am liking it quite a bit because that is a look I have favored since I was a child, playing in my grandpa's, dad's and uncles' old cars in our back acres.
