The terms Balayage and Ombre' refer to hair colouring techniques where colour or bleach is applied gradually to create a desired effect. A perm, on the other hand, is a chemical treatment used to create curls or waves in the hair. The terms "balayage perm" or "ombre perm" are used to describe a perming technique that creates big, loose curls or waves gradually.
Have you noticed that most ombre' or balayage hair photos on social media feature loose curls as the finishing touch? That's because curls add sensuality and dimension to the hair, making the colour stand out. Thus, the service of "Ombre' perm" or "Balayage Perm" was born. However, it's important to note that these curls are often not permanent, and stylists usually style and curl the hair after the colour treatment to give it the final finish.
It's essential to know that a colour treatment and a perm service should never be done in one appointment. These are two different services and should be done separately, preferably 1 to 2 weeks apart. Nowadays, with advances in perm technology, it's possible to use some perm solutions, such as lower pH acid perms, to create curls after coloring. However, it's NOT recommended to perm heavily bleached hair.
The most effective and non-damaging way to achieve an ombre/balayage perm and highlight finish is to perm the hair first and wait 1 to 2 weeks before getting the colour treatment. If the hair is already chemically treated, then a low pH perm should be used.

I'd LOVE to get an acid-wave perm (one that's safe for bleached and high-lift colour-treated hair), but I wouldn't know where to go and/or whom to see, here in the greater metropolitan New York City area! I love your bracelets, Abby--beautiful! Lovely, soft results. Me, I prefer a tighter curl, but very nice. Wow, I've always been told NEVER to brush hair once it has been permed.

That's a rat-tail comb. A "pin-tail" comb may also be used in lieu of a rat-tail one.
