It certainly is! And the Tallis Fantasia on the other side is magical. This was one of the longest lasting full-price EMI issues for a good reason!

Classics and Vinyl, The Tallis is beautifully played, but V.Williams has never been a huge favourite of mine. I loved his stuff as a teenager in the 1960s, but sadly grew out of him, in favour of Walton and Britten.

Peter if you have got a turn table the Record Number of that Recording is ASD-521 and I've got a Mint first Pressing Stereo on White and Gold and it's just as good on the Dark Cemi Circle and I would also Reckonmend Elgar Cello Concerto HMV ASD-655 and the Violin Concerto Yehudi Menuhin HMV ALP-1456 RED and Gold and ASD-2259 Dark Cemi Circle

Having got a copy of this 1963 Recording on His Master's Voice White and Gold label I found this interpatatiion of Elgar's Music to quit inviguating and I should imagine that it is very Rare because a year later the Record label was changed to a Dark Cemi Circle

The original white/gold label will be very rare. Mine is a re-issue.

Spannende Interpretation dieses einzigartig konstruierten Meisterwerks mit seidigen Töne des Streichquartetts und gut harmonisierten Töne des kompakten Orchesters. Der erfahrene Maestro dirigiert alles im gut phrasierten Tempo mit gut artikulierter Dynamik. Die Tonqualität ist auch ziemlich hoch als eine Aufnahme von fast sechzig Jahre vor. Echt atemberaubend!

Hi Bob, I have the Mono version of this both on LP and CD, (you can never have too much Elgar)! I must admit to having the greatest regard for the SPU, it just seems to sound so right. And I think I've said that before , sorry.

Hi Nigel. I too have this on CD, my dad's original mono LP, this Alto 180gm reissue and a "normal" stereo copy too. As you say you can't have too much Elgar . . . The Tallis Fantasia on the other side is possibly the best ever version - definitely the best of the many versions I have. One for another video! And the SPU is a classic cartridge for a classic turntable ;o) (You can say you like as many times as you like - Lol!)

Well Nigel well try and get hold of a copy of the Stereo Version and how both of them were Made there were two tape Systems Made in 1963 and that Continued until 1967 when Mono equivalent Recordings were dropped from the Record Catalogue and that is why these early Stereo Recordings are so Expensive and the best one's are DECCA with there [FFSS]followed by[EMI]from 1958-1973

I Carn't see how you can have the Mono version of this Recording on C-D as only the Stereo Version would have been Transferred to C-D
