Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Lyrics:
Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you
some sunny day. Oh Yah!
Oh take your time don't live too fast
troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget son there is someone up above
And be a simple kind of man
Oh be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can?
Forget your lust, for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this Oh baby if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Oh be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can?
Boy don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this Oh baby if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can?
Baby be a simple, be a simple man.

My "step"father Richard was the greatest man I've ever known. He loved my mom and her 3 crazy kids as his own for years without anything in return until we were old enough to realize how lucky we were to have such a great man in our lives. He taught us to love Jesus, be decent people, work hard, and take care of each other. He had a band and also taught us so much about music. After 30 years of being married to my mom, he passed away in 2020. My siblings and our spouses wrote his eulogy and made sure this song, Simple Man, was the 1st heard by everyone in the church who attended. He was the greatest man. I am so fortunate to have had 30 years of his time on earth being my dad.

Well this is a happy comment ... When my son was very young I told him I wanted this song for our mom and son dance ... As the years went by I totally forgot about what I told him . He was 30 n he asked me if I still wanted this song to be our mom and son dance ... Well I just started crying for joy as I had forgotten n he always remembered what I told him when he was like 8-9 years old ... Love that son of mine always

I"ve heard this song a million times, but it came on today and the tears came. My 22 year old son is still trying to find himself. Struggled with college and finally told me the other day that he's dropping out, with no real plan. I worry about his surviving in this world. Every lyric to this song is what I want to say to him. So I sent him this video. We connect thru music.

@April Plans change and that’s ok. He may have a plan that he’s not sharing yet or it’ll come to him. What are his passions and what does he like to do? I attended college for two years and it wasn’t feeling right to me so I dropped out in 1999 and went onto something else I was passionate about. (Of course I worked hard until I figured out what I wanted to do but kept busy and living life.) I finally w ent to a trade school in 2003 and have been successful since. I can’t imagine what kids feel these days. These are some crazy days…. To me, I’m glad I dropped out because I didn’t want to waste my parents money paying out of state tuition. I wish you and your family the best 💜

Dedicated this to my only son months ago. This Friday I found out that I have a large Mass and going for a CT scan on Wednesday to see if the cancer has spread. My lil man is 12 and I was just saying how I can't wait to see what he looks like as a young man. I may not get the chance so I pray he grows to be a Simple Man and thinks of mom Everytime he hears this song. I love you my only son❤️💙

In the name of Jesus Christ I curse that tumor or tumors in your body Donna Richmond, I curse every spirit of cancer in your body and commanded it to die now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the bible says that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, well in the name of Jesus I destroy the works of the devil in your life, I destroy every plan the enemy has against you. I speak life, blessings, restoration, complete healing over your spirit, your soul and your body in the name of Jesus and I speak salvation over you and your house, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ I declare and decreed this, amen. Pray this prayer all the time and it will go away, this is spiritual warfare, let the doctors do their job, you do yours and I can guarentee it, it will go away, ask the Lord about this, ask for wisdom and understanding on this. Ask the Lord for the root of the oroblem, how did this cancer gain entrance into yiur body? Ask, ask, ask, thre is a Living God and HE is good, if there was no God, then Good and evil would not exist. Have a bless day and I will help you prsy, from a distance, but mighty effective, hallelujah for the honor and glory of Jesus.

Im sorry for your loss and everyone who has suffered first from a criminal conspiracy of pharmceutical and doctors to sale massive amounts of narcotics with no regard for the devastation inflcted as long as more zeroes were added to the bottom line and a hefty fine that wasnt but a small portion of the profits was the punishment actually it was just them paying the gov there take like a good partner in crime. iSadly our " leaders" have totally abandoned there responsibilities to this country and allowed a hundred thousand people die a year when the entire Vietnam War had less in its entirety. It's not just drugs being dangerous but the Chinese flooding the country with Fentanyl to make them even deadlier without a single repercussion and that's why they do it they know they can kill a million of our citizens this way with little no consequences whereas using a gun to kill even one could trigger a war.

I'm so sorry I can't ever imagine losing a child I've lost my parents I have lost a brother and sister at very young ages and my husband a short three years ago but to lose a child I just can't imagine. I've always wondered if it was punishment from God until I was directed to James 1:13 which reads this way. When under trial let no one say I am being tried by God for with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. That sure gets you to thinking why do we suffer. And then after I read this other scripture it really made me start doing some digging that's Revelation 12:12 on this account be glad you heavens and you who reside in them woe for the Earth and for the sea because the devil has come down to you having great anger knowing that he has a short period of time. Think about that for a moment. For more information go to jw.org

One day as I was sitting outside smoking a cig he sat with me and we talked about life. This was his favorite song. He passed in a horrible accident as he was driving his semi in snowy weather up in the Texas panhandle. To this day, I play this song at least twice 8n his memory. Cheers brotha, this one's for you. @@seanbishop9273 Even if it was not bad for your health, and it is extremely bad for your health, it smells really really bad. You as the smoker are the absolute last one to know how bad you smell. Even now, you're thinking, "I don't smell bad." Yep, you do. It's also a grand waste of money. Remember that longevity is one thing, but quality of life is quite another. Your voice changes and becomes way less clear. You get out of breath easily and did I mention: you smell really bad, as does all your clothing.

My mom just passed on Monday, November 8th, 2021 at the age of 56 unexpectedly. I've always felt that this song was one that speaks to me from her. She never introduced me to this band however I felt that this song in specific was my mom saying everything to me. My mom was my everything, my best friend, my rock, my support system. I never thought I would be faced with something like this, especially so soon. I'm 26 and to think I have to go through the next 50 to 60 years without her is going to be difficult. I love you mom. You will live forever.

My Brother showed me this when I was young, around 13 maybe. It made a lot of sense, I understood what he was trying to tell me through the song. I knew it was a warning, to not live the kind of life that he lived. RIP, Bradley, I wish I could play bf3 with you and vibe to your incredible music taste. I love you Brother, I hate that this opioid crisis continues to take lives, like yours. I hate that so many years went by without you around. I still haven't properly grieved, when I try the pain is just too much and it never feels like I can get past it. He taught me things that I wouldn't have learned, because my Father was not in the picture. It shouldn't have ended like this, but your legacy of being a cool ass big Brother and a source of profound guidance will always live within me.

Me and my brother knew this older man in Alabama that had a horse farm and we went to visit him. We called over about 10 of those horses and afterwards all three of us were sitting on this rock wall right outside the farm just watching the horses, it was probably 7 o'clock just as sun is going down, but this fourth guy just drove up because he knew the guy and we all were just sitting on that rock wall and Simple Man started playing and we just sat there and listened. That was a great moment in my life. Thanks Skynyrd

My mom passed away on January 11th, 2017. About a month later, I was building my first work bench (she was a really handy woman) and I broke down crying that I wished she could be there to see my creation and to tell me she was proud. I was listening to Pandora and had been listening to heavy rock all night, nothing soothing. After I broke down, cried and talked to mom, this song came next on the playlist. I immediately stopped what I was doing with the work bench and just cried and enjoyed the moment with my mom. I knew she was looking down from up above and couldn’t talk to me directly, so she had to show her grieving son that she was still with him in spirit. I get married in 2 days on 6-12-21 and this is the song I’m dancing too with my future mother-in-law. I love and miss you mom!!

My son's wedding used rock bands' album covers instead of table numbers. His oldest friends' table was designated Lynyrd Skynyrd. So I contacted the wedding band ahead of time and asked if they knew Simple Man. They did and I surprised my son with it for our Mother/Son dance. He and the old friends' at the Skynyrd table were blown away!

I was watching Hawaii Five O, and they played this song. It touched me so much, I Googled it. And then listened to the whole song. It brought tears to my eyes, but I "listened" to it again, and again. I'm going to make sure, that when God call's me home. When they close my casket, and carry me out. "THIS," IS THE SONG THEY PLAY. Not that it matters, "or", maybe it does. I am a 60 year old Black Man, but "THIS" song, made me cry once I googled it, and listened to the whole song. It's "AMAZING", what certain songs can do for you. No matter the race, color, creed, or religion. Extremely, a "POWERFUL" song. I had three sisters, that has gone above the clouds. My Father, Mother, and a Daughter. My Mother had three daughters, and "one" son,,,,, "Me"!!! I am the last of her Legacy, 😢😢😢. But "this" song, will play over me

Its just passed a year of your son's passing, and I was thinking... I lost my grandpa just about a year ago as well. It's crazy how time flies, but at the same time takes too long to move. What that means though, is that time will not stop, the healing process is immense, we just need to keep going. Your son, my grandpa, both are in a place where they can live... live better than they ever have. Hold those memories with you, and cherish them. And years from now, you'll be able to remember your son in tears of joy, for his life, rather than remorse. I wish you the bests of luck, and enjoy the new year. Let's hope 2021 is a year of recovery. God bless you.

Well, that's when we ALL WOULD BE MUCH HAPPIER. I'M so sorry that you are not happy .... Simply put...if YOU were HAPPY , YOU wouldn't be so ANGRY ABOUT THOSE WORDS IN THE SONG. I have VERY DIFFICULT DAYS, just like everyone does. And, I have to try to find a reason to even keep going some days. TODAY, YOUR COMMENT WAS THE REASON!! I said nothing about "GOD"... That was you and plz EVERYONE THAT READS THIS AND DOES KNOW AND BELIEVE IN GOD AND JESUS CHRIST, WOULD YOU ALL PRAY FOR THIS PERSONS SOUL BECAUSE What happens to our SOULS when we are called HOME IS REALLY WHAT MATTERS. FYI , MY SOUL IS WELL WITH MY SON SITTING OR STANDING IN FRONT OF GOD'S THRONE.... I JUST MISS HIS HUGS AND THE VERY BRIGHT LIGHT THAT BEAMED FROM HIM .... IN A SHORT TIME HE TOUCHED SOOO MANY OTHER SOULS AND HE LEFT THIS PLACE WITH A LEGACY. I want that for you as well. I apologize for upsetting you and NOTHING ELSE. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER DENY GOD OR JESUS CHRIST, OUR SAVIOR! You ARE GOD"S CHILD AND THE SOONER OUR PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED FOR YOU THE BETTER OFF YOUR SOUL WILL BE WHEN YOUR TIME COMES. This song is for my first and only son!! He will be 18 November 13th, 2018. He was born very early and died 2 times before I got to bring him home from the hospital. Today he is an addict and I struggle everyday watching him destroy himself. I still listen to this song hoping one day and praying that God will heal him from his addiction before it is too late. He is a fighter and has been since day one and I can't imagine him allowing his addiction to beat him. All I have ever wanted for him is to be a Simple Man

So much music I listened to as a kid hits different now - took til my 20s for sure. Largely because I had *SEVERE* ADHD as a child, and pretty much all songs were misunderstood. I was sort of in a permanent acid trip as a kid. I literally didn’t understand a single story line from any movie, even simple cartoons. It was all just colors, noises and the vivid over-perception of micro, imagined storylines. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed going back and re-watching/re-listening to all the movies and songs I watched during childhood. It’s an incredibly euphoric, borerline psychedelic experience, especially rewatching old disney movies. It’s hard to explain - it’s almost like remembering an old dream that’s been forgotten since your childhood. And all the memories and emotions you felt at that precise moment suddenly rush back. Like, the most beautiful imagery and smells, and vibes overtake me. It’s an incredible experience. No words can explain.

I was at work this past week, putting in an order at will call and this song was playing in the office. I wasn’t even paying attention to it; I’ve heard the song my whole life and I figured it was just another time hearing it. The kid taking my order said “if you can sing this entire song, word by word, I’ll give you this order for free”. I’ve heard it a million times before, but damn it, I couldn’t do it. It manifested itself inside me until I got on Spotify and started playing it. Then, i truly heard it for what it was. I haven’t been doing great these past few years as I have been struggling to stay happy and sober. I can’t help but cry when I hear this song now. I need this song nowadays, and brings me hope to achieve genuine happiness, which hasn’t been around for me in a long time. Best of days to you and everyone else in this world.
