I used to own a 74 Ranchero 500 just like the one in this video and it was a great truck. I actually hauled a 48 Dodge Meadowbrook from Justin Tx. back to West Tennessee with it and got 280 miles to a tank of fuel pulling about 8000 pounds,car ,trailer and other items loaded in the car and the bed of the truck. Mine had the 351 Cleveland engine in it.

Dad, said the Ranchero is the same as the Torino. He had a 1975 Gran Torino he painted it candy apple red and put a big white stipe on it with a thin dark blue stripe all around it just like Starsky and Hutches stripped tomato. LOL Dad got the exact specs for it from my our aunt who worked for Universal Studio's at the time. Great Video!! So happy you posted another one!!! May God Bless!!!

Great video Rick! My aunt bought a 1972 Ranchero Squire new and we took it on a fishing trip up through Canada right after she bought it. Seldom did we stop someplace that we didn't have a crowd gather around it for a look. It would pass anything it needed to pass with the 351 Cleveland. Looks like they used a Pinto shifter to convert this one to a floor shift. I'd be on the lookout for a Torino Gran Sport hood for it if it were mine.

Rick, Second thoughts are sometimes better. As for my comments about the second Ranchero, I spoke too soon, realizing it few minutes later. I've had this kind of thinking go both ways over the years. Upon a first look at a vehicle right away thinking it was a junker. Then later on after much thought, went back intending to buy only to find it had been sold. Yes, I too see the crusher as an enemy. I hate seeing so many cars and trucks being sent to the crusher. I enjoy all of your videos, and look forward to seeing more of them. Jay

Nice video Rick & Jamie, you did your Dutchmen friends real proud in finding them those Ranchero's, I noticed two other things also, now that the ranch is loosing it's drab winter coat what a big difference that new green spring/summer coat makes, it really brings out the look of the ranch, also I see Annabella is in full training in becoming the ranch's guard dog, you will have to put a sign at the entrance, WARNING! Loose Vicious Guard Dog Enter At Your Peril, she sure put bigfoot in his place LOL. UK Barry & FLO

+barry edwards I love and hate the new foliage. Love it because I think I may have mowed down a bit more than needed when we did the initial clearing/ Hate it because I have to keep moving trucks to mow beneath them. Good news is we seem to have accidentally done something right with the roads. Nothing growing up where we put rock, just have to keep the edges clear. Guess I need to make a second, graveled parking area for the parts trucks and move all the complete trucks into the main parking area. We'll get it straightened-out and organized. Just good to be living here and having a place to call home. Thank you UK Barry and Flo and Thanks Fer Watchin' Again. -Rick

Hi, I love your show and I'm a first time poster here. Just a couple of observations. I'm pretty sure that car is a '75 or '76, as told by the steering wheel. The '74 wheel is different, it has straight spokes instead of the drop-off type. That said, it definitely should be a 351M, as the '74 was last year for the Cleveland. From 1975, there were no 4-barrel 351s built, until the mid 80s when Ford returned to it on their 351 Windsor trucks. The shots of the dash surprised me, as this car has the Auto-temp AC system, like a Lincoln has. This is kind of a surprising high buck option for an otherwise low option car. It was $100 more than the manual AC. Another tipoff was when the seller said that you had to wait for the car to warm up before the fan turns on. This is way they are designed, its a thermostatically controlled system. My parents had a '76 Elite (Gran Torino) with this system, which went on the fritz before the car was 2 year old. Frankly, I would rather have the manual system as it can be diagnosed and repaired more easily.
@ClassicTruckRescue8 жыл бұрын
Your knowledge of these cars is impressive. You are correct, Robert's green Ranchero is infact a '76. I got a bit confused because I had been looking at so many of them. I will pass the information you provided on to my Friends. Thank you and Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
@gosportjamie8 жыл бұрын
That's a nice, original unmessed-with truck. You can see it hasn't been hacked around and bodged up like so many vehicles of that age. I would imagine when it comes to sorting the air conditioning out he'll need to pull the whole system down as I'm pretty sure The Netherlands, like the rest of Europe, outlawed the old R12 refrigerant years ago so it will need to be upgraded to be compatible with R132a refrigerant. I have to say those 351 Windsor engines do have a distinctive, nice throaty soundtrack to them...
@ClassicTruckRescue8 жыл бұрын
+gosportjamie I think the condition can be attributed to the fact that the original owner was disabled and kept the car under a carport from 1974-2012. You're right though, most cars from that era tend to be hacked-up. It was a rare find as far as condition goes. You are correct about the A/C, good news is that Robert has all the components. Thank you and Thanks Fer Watchin' Again. -Rick
@gosportjamie8 жыл бұрын
Classic Truck Rescue There's no doubt about it, when you're buying an old car you really want to get one that's been owned by a caring owner who has had or done the work properly rather than bodging it up to keep it on the road. Again, thanks for posting...

If Robert restores Fiats for a living he's not going to be afraid of making his own repair panels as panels for a lot of Fiats aren't widely available, and often not at all, and Fiats in northern Europe rust like crazy. I started off my career with a Fiat main dealer and you got pretty used to seeing 3-4 year old cars that resembled a Tetley teabag (they used to be advertised as having 2000 perforations "to let the flavour flood out" lol...)
@ClassicTruckRescue8 жыл бұрын
+gosportjamie Tetley teabag /Funny. I think you are correct. I don't think Robert will have any trouble putting the second Ranchero right. Thank you. -Rick

As I recall reading up on the 351M (got one in my 78 F250 4x4) the M(odified) is a hybrid between the Cleveland with 400 heads on it. (Maybe to deal with the Cleveland habbit of randomly bending lifters?) My only objection to it (on my F250) is that it's such a THIRSTY BEAST! Best mileage I could get was about 12 MPG.
@ClassicTruckRescue7 жыл бұрын
Heck....12MPG is pretty good.

I had a 77 Ranchero with a 351 Cleveland. That thing got rubber in all three gears with an automatic. Fun car to drive but went thru a lot of rear tires!

Also speaking of options, in addition to the gauge package, it appears to have a lockable inside hood release, does it? If so, it has the "protection group' option which is rare enough that I've never one outside of a brochure. Also, the dual chrome mirrors indicate that this had the '"convenience group" This option also included interval wipers, I'll just bet that if you turn the wiper knob to the left of "off", it will do so and you'll be in interval mode, and you adjust the length of the wipe cycle by turning farther left.
@ClassicTruckRescue8 жыл бұрын
It does have the 'Protection Group". I do know that the wipers are interval as well. I found that out when I couldn't get them to turn of by turning the knob all the way to the left. One click to the right and they disappeared beneath the hood. Thanks again. -Rick

Great video. Loved the car collection. I rather see them like that then in a car show any day. You need to be careful though. Too many more Fords and you will have to change your name to Classic Junk Rescue.

+Jeremy Phillips My sickness is not limited to Chevy and GMC. I do not really care for Rancheros myself. I think I may have alluded to that fact several times in the video. That said, it IS an old American vehicle. In amazing condition. The new owner loves it and will undoubtedly turn it into a beautiful machine and lavish it with tons of attention. For me, that's what its all about. Stay tuned for the video of the Mark IV I wound up with when I had already purchased it and retrieved when Robert decided he wanted a Ranchero. Bought it from a Lady who ordered it new with her late husband on their 25th wedding anniversary. It is in nearly mint condition. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick

Rick the wheels on the green ranchero are american racing outlaw 2. Those where a great score as well. The wheels on the second ranchero are torque thrust wheels. Good luck to Robert fixing up the second ranchero. Rick&Jamie are you going to pick up the fire truck this year? Looking forward to the next new video Rick &Jamie.

It needed savin'....we are most-definitely coming to Minnesota in June, and would love to meet you when we're there. We may bring Homer, depending on how he does with the 56. -Rick

not sure exactly. It is the 55-59 and I see the hole in the hood for the gmc emblem. It is parked in their back yard. It used to be under a temporary carport but the canvas has gone away. You might even be able to get the carport frame from them.It is the costco style, nothing fancy.You can see the truck from the road. It is dark green. It is on Bendameer road. I think that area is considered portland but it is just outside of hillsboro about 10 minutes from Hillsboro stadium.
