I saw at the Met together in Lucia di Lammermoor and Daughter of the Regiment.

What is your memory of these performances ?

@ First, it was nearly impossible to snag a Lucia ticket. I had to sign up for a college class on opera appreciation, simply because the tuition included a ticket. I had seen Sutherland many times before she was “fired” by the Met. And she was getting on in years. But her voice sounded as full, resonant, and brilliant as ever. For those who never heard her in a theater, it was a physical experience - the higher she went, the more brilliant she sounded, and the tone would ricochet through the theater. Kraus, as always, was thoroughly dependable, with ease throughout his range, and popped out high notes with seemingly no effort. I didn’t find his actual tone ingratiating though, a little too nasal. They were again in fine form for Daughter of the Regiment, having quite a romp, although the opera isn’t a favorite of mine.
