You are seriously my hero! Thank you for all of your wonderful, creative ideas and simulations and THANK YOU FOR SHARING THEM with other teachers! I cried when I found out I was teaching economics for the first time 3 years ago, your help has been invaluable for me with becoming more comfortable teaching a course that I dreaded. Thank you so much! If you haven't won Teacher of the Year in your state, that's a crime!

The videos are so helpful to me for they explain abstract thing in such an easy way. BUT HEY Mr Clippard, here I have one request about going an ABSTRACT way : maybe there could be a specific video to explain all the rules with math methods (like using Derivative to explain why MC=MR is the point where the profit maximize). It will really help students who like math to have a deeper understanding about the rules and concepts in Microeconomics.

Thanks for this great idea. I'm SO doing this in my class. By "perfect competition," I take it you mean commodities, like oil or hay or silver. So where in your demonstration is free-market competition? Is that what you're calling monopolistic competition? Free markets for products like clothing, jewelry, restaurants, cars, pens, apartment buildings, etc. don't operate with monopolies. There is a wide range of variety and value from both large and small firms, and although some firms may be MUCH larger than others, they are not monopolies. Thanks again for some great videos. I think I'll assign some of them as homework. : )

8. You all have been given 3 marks to begin with. You could contribute 0 to 3 marks from these 3 marks to a common pool. Each of the students in your class will also be making the same decision. If the common pool from all of you is more than 200 marks, all of you will get the marks you contributed and 2 more marks extra. If the common pool is lesser than or equal to 200 marks, you will lose the marks the contributed to the common pool. The marks you do not contribute to the pool remains with you. Example scenarios. Scenario 1. If you do not contribute anything, but the pool has more than 200 marks, you get 3+2 marks = 5 marks Scenario 2. If you contribute 2 marks and the common pool has more than 200 marks, you get 1 mark (which you do not contribute)+2 marks(which you contributed) +2 marks (bonus as per the rules of the game)=5 marks Scenario 3. If you contribute 1 mark to the pool and the common pool has only 180 marks, you get 2 marks (which you did not contribute to the pool) =2 marks Write in a single letter/word what is your contribution to the common pool.

lol the girl at the end. How could microsoft be a monopoly?? It doesn´t take a genius in economics to know there is plenty of substitutes for it, Apple being the obvious one. In gaming, sure they own xbox and are big on PC, but there is nintendo and play station. Most generally, there is samsung, sony, apple, logitech, etc. to name a few. Microsoft a monopoly... pff. Cool class though.
@JackDaniels-ee1fo8 жыл бұрын
***** I didn´t imply that he said it. I meant the girl at the end, it´s clear in the first sentence of my comment lol.
@Steve88648 жыл бұрын
+Javier Sanchez If you are a user that can only use Windows OS and you refuse to learn another system, in that way you could consider microsoft a monopoly? It's not right cause there is not a market for 'windows's' but that's where I would say the thought may have come from
@JackDaniels-ee1fo8 жыл бұрын
Steve8864 If you refuse to learn another system that doesn´t make anything a monopoly. It´s like saying McDonalds is a monopoly if an individual doesn´t like eating anywhere else lol. No, there are substitutes, if you refuse to try them out then that may be your preference but not everyone´s, so there is no monopoly in such scenario.
@Steve88648 жыл бұрын
+Javier Sanchez a student who is learning the basics of economic theory has an idea that is wrong in class. Must you criticize?
@JackDaniels-ee1fo8 жыл бұрын
Steve8864 As I said, it doesn´t really take a knowledge of basic economics to understand what a monopoly is. If it has been explained once, it should be crystal clear, that´s a very very basic term that a college, or even a high school, student should have no trouble understanding. That said, my critique was merely pointing out that it was funny. I didn´t mean to offend or humilliate anyone lol. Plus, this is youtube, my comment was a rather proper critique, if you want to call it that, relative to what you can find in the overall comments section of every video. No need to take it seriously.
