Tip for storing the clipboards: alternate them (right side up, upside down, right side up, …) to create more space!

I had a bunch of books like those...at one point they were probably used at a teacher table, but as the district got new book sets for guided reading, and new curriculums over the years-past teachers just put them in the library for students to read. Could be the case! I'm always making a list of questions to ask someone that has answers and I'm 10 years in lol!

My kinders learned all coins throughout the year so I would definitely keep the money! I always got nervous my first year never knowing what to keep in a new classroom because there is always so much stuff. See if you can chat with your other team members to help you streamline what needs to be accessible and what can be stored!

Try push pinning the calendar instead of a command hooking it, that will make it flush against the wall. Also legos would be a great option for the last manipulative/stem toy bucket. My kinders love them and you can usually find them at thrift stores and things super cheap.

Hi! I’m going to be a first year Kindergarten teacher this year as well! I see some of the people saying to keep the money because their students learned about money in Kindergarten. However, it all depends on your district’s/ county’s curriculum. In my state and current county (and last county) money is learned in 1st grade.

You could put play dough in the empty clear bin. That’s a great place to store morning bins!

For the empty manipulative box, you could get the little hashtag blocks from the Target dollar spot. I just bought a bunch of tubes because they're $1. I dumped them all together in a container. My students love them way more than I thought they would, and they are actually good for fine motor which is important in Kinder!

I know you already printed, laminated, and set up your entire calendar, but here's an important tip: be very mindful of fonts and patterns that are going to be extremely hard for your students to read. Primary students need plain printed fonts :)

Great job of setting up your first classroom. Just something to think about- having the blocks and small manipulatives so close to your small group table might get too loud at times. Good luck with your first year.

Money used to be a state standard in Illinois. Now in common core, it is not taught until 2nd grade. I use my coins for visual discrimination ( sorting, etc.)

You dont need that huge desk when you have a teacher table. I got rid of mine years ago. Just use your teacher table as your desk ❤. Also, ditch the leveled readers if you can. The SOR research promotes skills and not reaching a certain level. Use them in themed book bins. That shelf is perfect for bins of manipulatives or toys

Could you have an area specifically for small group books and alphabetize them? Then you can find them later 😊

Money was most likely for dramatic play. I know our kindergarten teacher has play money and my preschool class does too.

Pennies are especially useful for teaching one to one correspondence with counting.

Money is definitely taught in first grade and kindergarten. this year in second we spent a lot of time making change.

I would look at your standards or curriculum about the coins. In my state, the Kinders have to identify (name) the coins (it's a standard). In our new curriculum, it teaches using coins in a few places. Or it could just be coins from the dramatic play center! Your apt to find anything in a Kinder classroom 😂.

In Texas, we teach kindergarten the attributes of coins i.e. names, color, and value. I think you should keep it.

I learned money in kindergarten and that was over 40 years ago. I would keep it, because you'll most certainly need it to teach.
