I use a shoe organizer for my headphones, too. It's a great idea. I used to do student work like you do yours. But back then, I was self contained. At my current school, we're departmentalized. I have 2 classes, but not enough room for 50 students. In the last school in my old state, I had plenty of wall space. I would take a picture of every kid and glue it on a sentence strip with their name. Then, I would hang one class on one wall and another class on another.That's where I put their classwork up. It was a 4th grade. I used to love to see their cute little faces when I was in the room without them.😂

I love the idea of a weekly student broadcast.

I am SO excited for it. The students have been working on their first broadcast and it's adorable. Especially when they introduce their co-anchor. 💗☺

I just LOVE you, Mariel! ❤😂 I appreciate your transparency!! Professionalism! And these tips are right where I’m at as a 14 years/first-year teacher for 5th grade students. P.S. I still have three weeks to wash my rugs!! (14 years in education, yet my first year teaching the fifth grade math & science curriculum !!)

I call my cozy corner the Zen Zone. I put affirmations on a ring. I have breathing cards( Maybe I got those from you?) I found some fun stress balls. There are pillows. I may put up an unbreakable mirror. P.S. I LOVE the book "Hair Love"!

I like the idea of a mirror! Zen Zone is such a cool name to call it. Isn't Hair Love great?! It's such a wonderful book. 💗

That's so funny! What a perfect coincidence. Yeah, the black ones held up so well that I'm getting another year out of them. They're awesome.

Could you share your star student circles/poster template? Good idea for a quick pick each day!
@TheTimeCrunchedTeacher2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I'm planning on making a video on it to describe the process a bit better, but here you go: docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Qo-USOb6cEuBVTbDIWRmgSnVzrTfZe7FBSKAYtWXf9E/copy. Canva has a lot of cute "star" templates as well if you wanted to customize it further.

I'm going to do communal supplies this year, too. I ordered one of those big crayon boxes that are already separated by color. But I just bought some markers, only few boxes. Maybe I can separate them by color using red Solo cups?
@TheTimeCrunchedTeacher Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I think cups would work great! Anything that lets them "grab and go." I love having all the supplies out. Kids always have access to whatever the color they need and it's so easy to replenish supplies when they're low (instead of EVERY DAY like I was when each kid had their own art pouch). Let me know how it works for you or if you have any suggestions for improvement!

Do you have just one class for all subjects? I know in fifth grade some schools keep their classes all in one classroom and the teacher teaches all the subjects, and some schools have the teachers teach one or two subjects and the students switch classrooms like in middle school. I’m just curious how yours does it. I’m getting my education degree in 4-8 and I’m trying to decide between middle or elementary but it somewhat depends on if the district does one or the other for elementary school
@TheTimeCrunchedTeacher6 ай бұрын
Great question! My current 5 grade class I teach all of the subjects (with a few release classes like Art - which is taught by someone else). However, I’ve also taught middle school where the students rotate through the teachers. Personally, I prefer teaching all the subjects to one group of students. The trade off is it means I have to do more lesson planning. When you teach middle school, you can teach the same lesson to different sections. However, the trade off there is that you’re likely to have a lot more students per section and overall - which can make for more grading. I enjoyed both, so it’s really up to personal preference. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! 💕

I saw in another one of your videos that you used an outdoor rug in your classroom. The surface was smooth. What are those smooth top rugs called. I am unable to find one
@TheTimeCrunchedTeacher2 ай бұрын
Oh great question! I’m not sure what they’re called as I just walked by and saw it on clearance. I’ve definitely seen similar ones at places like Target or Home Depot. I think they are described as “indoor/outdoor area rugs.” Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!
