Things I love about your classroom: I love how everything is functional and learning based. It is simple, yet effective. It is cute, yet based on learning first. Those are the classrooms I love the most. I can't wait to see how your classroom changes from year to year. ☺️

+Mrs. Call's Campers Mayleen , The classrooms I was in never had a calm down corner back when and where I was a school student and for me even in my life with autism back then , adjusting from home to school almost everyday was the big change for me because of the many struggles and temptations that I dealt with and there were moments when my body just did not want me to do anything when I had to . You are such an angel with your students to be working with them and have that space for them and allowing them that moment to clear their heads the way that you do . I truly enjoyed Your classroom tour . It's awesome . - Dwight

That's sad!!! No I actually didn't spend a fortune! 😂 goodwill for flexible seating, my old library bookshelves that I have in my calm corner and writing are $10-$15, the target cube shelf behind my table I used a parent gift card, the cube shelf that holds whole group supplies was from fb marketplace....so the ikea one for toys is the only one I paid a decent amount for! Try to remember that little ones can get overstimulated very easily. There is a lot to look at in this room. Maybe cabinets with doors to keep all the ins and outs out of sight?
@MrsCallsCampers3 жыл бұрын
Almost nothing in my room is up solely for decoration, 80% of what is on the walls is student work, and everything that is up is something we learn all year long or are currently learning. Everything has a clear purpose that the students engage with. As a teacher I can't just install cabinets with doors unfortunately so the built in storage I do have is organized.

There is nothing overstimulating about this room. It is organized and purposeful. I've seen heck of a lot messier rooms, without purpose, and the kids were fine.

If you let your kiddos sit where they want what about beginning of year to see and write/copy name from a name plate?
@MrsCallsCampers2 жыл бұрын
In the beginning of the year, I make a center that they can practice with magnetic letters (the blue and red kind) so each kid has a laminated piece of paper (it's like 1/3 of a paper length-wise) with their picture on it. Kids start with this in their bookbins, so they can grab it to see. Then everyone's goes into centers to practice other students' names. It is like the size of a nametag. They also have their center folders with their names they can grab. Last year I made little reference folders for my kinders with their name, colors, letters, all that kind of stuff. Longwinded answer but basically they always have something if they need it!

I love the worry area however, I myself worry having this space if it would stop a child physically telling you a worry like being subject to abuse. Studies show that children usually try to report sexual abuse in their young years and if its not taken on by the person who's being disclosed to, children will usually keep it a secret until mid 20s. I personally worry that it could confuse young children as to who to speak to with a worry, as some children don't even realise how great of a disclosure it is or they themselves don't think its an issue.
@MrsCallsCampers3 жыл бұрын
Sexual abuse isn't a topic we cover in the classroom. That is entirely on the family. However, part of the calm corner includes talking to me if they need to. I typically always check in with students if I can tell something is not right. Having a safe space for students will not discourage them from talking; I would argue it does the opposite. Being a safe person for these kids would give them the reassurance that they can come to me. The calm corner isn't about dismissing students, concerns, or feelings. It's a place they can be with their feelings and decide what they need.
