In this video I show you how to use Org Mode and org-reveal to create classy reveal.js slideshows from your Org Mode files. We'll get a minimum working example, go over basic options to adjust the export to your liking, and then go into some more org-reveal features. Feel free to leave a comment with any questions, I try to reply to all of them!

Hi, lovely video. I have a question that is related to Org-mode files. Someone passed me a set of slides that have been saved as org files. I am using VSCode on a Windows machine, and I have no idea how to export them to pdf. I have installed the VSCode extension to read org files, and I can have them displayed on my computer. After searching like mad on the internet, the only problem I have is how to export them to pdf or Html using VScode. Help will be very much appreciated.
@JakeBox0

As far as I know, you'll need to use Emacs to export them like I do in my video. Good luck.

This was incredibly easy to follow! However, I did run into an issue with bringing up the speaker notes. Pressing `s` doesn't bring up anything for me. I've also tried inserting `#+REVEAL_PLUGINS: (notes)` as mentioned in the documentation, but the speaker notes still wouldn't show. It's not a very big deal for me now, but any suggestions would be appreciated! :D
@JakeBox0
@JakeBox0 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I'm not completely sure. Have you tried a different browser? Have you checked if your browser is blocking pop-ups? That is a likely reason.
@chillydonuts

@@JakeBox0 Thank you for the suggestion! I tried on Firefox and Chrome, disabled my extensions, allowed pop-ups - still no speaker notes. But I did find a solution that worked for me! 1. Install the latest release of Reveal.js (4.5.0). I downloaded the .zip file and extracted it to my Downloads folder. 2. In your config (.emacs.el) file, add this statement: `(setq org-reveal-root "file:///home//Downloads/reveal.js-4.5.0")`. The file path points to the extracted Reveal.js file from Step 1. 3. In your orgmode file, under `:REVEAL_PROPERTIES:`, remove the `#+REVEAL_ROOT` statement. This is because we already told the computer where Reveal.js is on our computer in Step 2. 4. Export your orgmode file! Hitting `s` should bring up the speaker notes. This worked on Ubuntu 22.04.03 LTS and on Firefox and Chrome, if that's relevant! Hopefully I was clear. If not, please let me know!

Do not forget to specify: #+REVEAL_REVEAL_JS_VERSION: 4 This fixed it for me.

When I used reveal js with my org mode documents, they were too long and had too much text, so they just went off the bottom of the page. How do you manage that without or l breaking up slides?
@JakeBox0
@JakeBox0 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's some way to basically change the size of the slides (the frame size and the font size), I think I did it once a while ago but can't seem to find how I did it. This might point you in the right direction: github.com/yjwen/org-reveal/issues/468#issuecomment-994406490 Edit: actually I think this is how I did it before.

Not sure if you will respond to this, but I was wondering if you could weigh in on an issue I am having with Speaker Notes. I followed your guide, and everything works as intended with no JavaScript Errors, but for some reason, the Speaker Notes will not launch no matter what I try. Any tips on the subject matter?
@JakeBox0
@JakeBox0 2 жыл бұрын
Happy to help! It might be that your browser is blocking popups. Try with Firefox, and when you open the Speaker Notes, look around the top left of the search bar to see if it mentions the window trying to open a pop-up. I can't offer help for other browsers, but I have to go through this procedure sometimes with Firefox. support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pop-blocker-settings-exceptions-troubleshooting Good luck!

@@JakeBox0 Sadly, that was not the case. I already added the file to a pop-up exclusion list. Shame it doesn't work, would have been really helpful.

It seems org-reveal takes the first #+TITLE / #+AUTHOR / #+OPTIONS it finds in an org file and then applies that property to the whole file. Which is a bit disappointing because when I want to make a reveal presentation of a subsection of my org file, I can't give a title for just that subsection. Instead the first title (probably from a previous subsection I wanted to present) will be applied -_-
@JakeBox0
@JakeBox0 2 жыл бұрын
I see. But shouldn’t a presentation have just one title? Titles for subsections are really just the name of the heading they are under, no? I think you can achieve what you want by shifting the way you look at the structure.
