This is such a beautiful performance, and it makes me sad that half the comments are about how pretty the girls are? I didn't even notice the girls because I was so captivated by the performance.

In "Spring Time in Park Lane" a - 1940s British produced light film comedy starring Dame Anna Neagle & Michael Wilding, there is a comic sequence where Dame Anna is "playing" the piano while Michael Wilding is masquerading as a footman when in reality he is a lord.He is scrubbing the floor under the pianoforte but makes a noise which stops Dame Anna playing. After a short duet together they then have a comic difference of opinion about who is the composer of La Petite Suite. Michael thinks it is Tchaikowsky while Anna corrects him stating that it was Claude Debussey. After seeing this movie I investigated this musical piece on KZbin.com to hear the full orchestration which is enchanting.

I like this better than almost any other Debussy composition. Yes, I know, I'm stupid and unsophisticated. I think it's a shame that Debussy didn't further explore the option of simple, strong melodies in a harmonically advanced setting. Well, I guess we have Prokofiev for that.

It just wasn't his pleasure to do that. He did what he wished to do and what he did changed music for everyone who came after him. The fact that a composer can write a beautiful melody line isn't a priority, its just a fact :-)
