My mother and father wore Claude Montana when I was a child. My father saved a few of his blazers and passed it down to me. Montana was a ground breaking designer along with Thierry Mugler and Jean Paul Gaultier. Fashion shows were grand and opulant in the 80's. Today, you have dull, expressionless models walking down an inspirationless runway.

This is exquisite, its high fashion at the very best. The best girls,hair, makeup, lighting, and choreography on the runway-something you just don't see anymore. Pat Cleveland owned the runway. What girls today can come close to her?
@wvanderwahl11 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100% about how dull the shows are today- even most of the models are different. The shows in the 80's had choreography and there were many models on the runway at the same time so your eye was stimulated.

I cant believe I have just found this on utube. I love the bicentenial fashion parade, my dad taped it for me when I couldnt stay home to watch it, he then accidentaly taped over the last part, so the wool corporation sent me another copy. Which i watched over and over. I now cant play my old video tape. I loved the music, the designers (especially Bruce Oldfield and Claude). Would love to get another copy on dvd for my little girl to watch. Cant wait to see more of it thanks heaps

I remember when this aired in Australia back then, when I was a young fashion student.... it was so historic!.... A group of the world's top designers all showing together, along with some leading local ones. I also remember that Claude Montana was quite upset as there was a collection shown by an Aussie designer there whom he felt ripped off his aesthetic. I also remember the really inane commentary, which was so bad (they didn't even know any of the famous models' names... when Alva Chinn walked the runway, they had no clue who she was...) that I eventually had to just turn the volume down on my TV. Thank you for posting this as it is quite rare!

Claude Montana is a Brilliant designer !!! He has inspired me yet again with this show, the pairing of the Black wool pants/dresses with the stunning White blouses + the topstitched Mandarin collars = Perfection !

Stunning. Like the Resnais film, statuesque silhouettes in the garden. So precisely choreographed. He was a monster, and I cannot imagine this type of precision performance came with a heaping ton of shouting, but what a result. Love the Olympic sport type of commentating. The whole scene is a bit unreal, like a dream. There are a few random pret-a-porter Montana pieces from the 80s for sale on ebay, any collectors should definitely look for them, the long white linen raincoat, a few structured women's tops that are pure Montana, not cheap but worth a look.

I absolutely loved this show when I saw it at 19. Claude Montana was my favourite at the time but I also loved Versace’s clothes at this event. Just stunning. Do you have the Versace section? I eventually lost my video tape of this show.
@Sitbon082 жыл бұрын
Yes I do but I need to transfer the video across sometime. I’m glad you enjoyed the Montana.

Who the hell are the two commentators?? They served zero purpose in this video.
@Sitbon084 жыл бұрын
Alex Tsahalis . Michael Parkinson (UK) and Debra Hutton (Australia); fashion editor in 80s.

@@Sitbon08 I was just wondering because the male commentator doesn't seem to know anything about fashion and the female commentator mispronounced Donna "Karan".
