He moulds music as a potter uniquely to himself yet to all who understand his utter devotion and dedication. Absolutely beautiful!

Claudio Abbado. 💐🎹

Such a miraculous conductor. As Kolja Blacher says, you can hear the whole score. Every layer, moving in time. Nice touch in the documentary: lots of endings, when you hear the appreciative silence that follows.

Extraordinario documental. Many thaks Paul Smaczny and EuroArts .

When I watch and hear him I imagine that he is in heaven alongside Mahler and Bruckner. One of the great regrets of my life that I never saw him conduct Mahler.

Minute 27:30 on the power of silence at the end of works such as the German Requiem: "People often ask me what kind of audience I like best. For me the best audience is one that stays silent as long as possible after a quite ending, say in pieces that have to do with death. The silence is such that you can't just applaud. And the longer that silence lasts, the more you feel the hall and the audience. The people hold their breath, and you can hear it. It's an entirely different acoustic."

This is all the sound and silence that permeates it from the beginning to the apparent end. It is a dynamic plasticity where a diffuse OM underlies everything. In addition we have a sensitive educator, music needs this.
