Great to have you back! I'm wondering what did you do between 2009 and today? And what made you come back to software development?

@@ClaudioBernasconi Im paid highest in the field while working, only Google and Microsoft was giving equivalent to that. I was project manager managing a team of 15. The product was Motion Analyser, engineering software, a product of Rockwell Automation. I wanted to do higher studies. My company asked me to stay for another year and help me get a seat in American University. But the option given was mechatronics not related to IT. I joined the university in 2009 Summer. Finished my studies by 2011 winter, however thesis defense was not complete and got least support from him. My professor is internationally known mechatronics guy, but for mechatronics one has to know software as well. The reality is he knows theory only. Unfortunately I told him this is not d way and this is the correct answer which was supported by industry guys too. This was not liked by this professor. I was in his blacklisted book. There was patent conflict as well. Thesis got dragged and I left US in 2014, without defense of my thesis. Without me my Indian company couldn't handle the complex Motion Analyser, the project collapsed. This angered my Indian company. So they didn't take me back. I shifted to my home state of India (south India). My state is not industrial and I didn't want to leave my parents. Tried starting business, struggled here. The state is not industry friendly. Dad passed away during corona. No other option left. Now I have to find a job. My colleague are in Google and Microsoft with top pay. These are the same pp l who used to copy my subcode 😁. The business has its own challenges and it has no relation to IT. My colleague know my capability. My Indian company owner (there are 2 owners, one of them is very supportive to me) is still in touch with me. He too left the company after taking his share. He is Ex - Illinois college professor. Still wondering what all I need to cover to reach d current level. Is there a possibility to go back to any US company. My daughter 10yrs is US citizen. She stays with me here in India.

Thank you for watching and for leaving your comment, Diogo. I agree. The goal of the video wasn't to go deep into the architectural or API changes. It was the idea to give the viewer an overview of all the terms involved and how they relate to each other. Of course, there are other videos and more information is required to get the full picture.

There was also Net Compact Framework that run on Pocket PC (Microsoft's smartphones of that time). I programmed an application for it in 2004

It's not always true that develop application on latest .NET standard as many people's hardware are still on old OS and they're not always be able to get latest or policy prevent them goes to latest (several years delay).

Always use the latest stable release. At this time, it is .NET 8.

I have some questions . 1. Is .Net Framework required licence. 2. If .Net core is an open source then for Visual Studio licence is required?

Thanks for your questions. You don't need a licence for developing or running .NET Framework-based applications. However, if you want to use Visual Studio, you need a license dependin on your company or what you do with it. Read the licensing terms for more information about it. However, you can use JetBrains Rider or Visual Studio Code as an alternative. Even for .NET (Core, not Framework) you don't need a license. But the same is true about the IDE as written above for the .NET Framwork.

Is there a way to target Windows 7 using the newer versions of .Net (starting from NET6 and up) ?

I don't know if it runs, but it's certainly not officially supported. Windows 7 support ended after 10 years on January 14th, 2020. Windows 7 was released in 2009 and I'm definitely should it makes not a lot of sense to target such an old operating system today. That said, nothing hold you back from building an app and trying to run it on Windows 7 and seeing what happens. I hope this helps.

I'd say the Microsoft website is the best place to download new .NET SDKs, yes.

Nice content, but you did not bring up the theme on why Microsoft developed 2 branches of frameworks at the same time period, calling out 4.6 - 4.8 and .NET Core 2.0, why they have completely different architecture, why they change the direction of the product and so on

I wanted to keep it as concise as possible. The answer to your question is that Microsoft learned that they needed to start over to be able to keep up with modern trends. For example, cross-platform wasn't possible with the "old" .NET Framework. Its ties to Windows (the OS) make it impossible to get rid of and, at the same time, impossible to make it cross-platform. Also, performance was limited with so much backward compatibility. It took a long time and a big effort, but thanks to it, we now have the best-performing cross-platform .NET that we have ever had.
