Chris, I had a interesting challenge this past Fathers Day weekend. Shooting 5 stand, the target was maybe 4 - 5ft high straight at you. I kept shooting over the target. I will use this suggestion on targets below the shoulders. I tried shooting straight at it with no lead and it ate my lunch to say the least. Thank you Sir for the training.

Who uses steel shot on clay target! he's using lead.

a lot of areas in cali require steel even for the target ranges :/

Because it's in water, the concern is that waterfowl will swallow the lead pellets (and then that lead gets into the food chain), and the lead can leach into the ground water over time (including nearby drinking wells). Wasn't so much of a concern a decade or two ago but recently the impacts have been studied and quantified. If your shot is going to land in water, use steel. It's smart and responsible to conserve our natural resources and hunting grounds for generations that follow.

In the Netherlands its even forbidden to shoot with lead……..🥲
