The Canucks can't take for granted they have the most cap space among Canadian NHL teams but if they use the cap space that they do have wisely enough, they should win at least one 2025 playoff series.

These off-seasons sound very familiar from past GMs the Canucks had. They have one good playoff run and all of a sudden there building to win a cup again and over pay free agents then find themselves in the same mess years down the road again.

Although I appreciated what Zadorov brought to the Canucks, I feel we have too small of a sample size to give him too much term and/or too much money. We can't keep signing Canucks to long-term contracts on a wing and a prayer and hope they play up to these ridiculous contracts. I would like to see what Zadorov contributes to the overall team success over a complete season before we get too carried away. I would be consulting Tocchet, Foote, and Gonchar as far as potential high IQ physical and/or mobile defensemen to pick up in free agency, and I strongly feel Noah Juulsen has earned his spot on the third pairing for next season.

The contract to which Brad Treliving, then-GM of the Flames, signed 1-time Panthers' winger Jonathan Huberdeau in August 2022, to go into effect the following July, has so far turned out to be an albatross with a US$10.5-million per-season cap hit and nowhere near, in either of his first two seasons with his newest team, the number of points during his last season with the Panthers in regular-season play. Barring a trade or buyout, the Flames have 7 seasons left of Huberdeau's US$10.5-million US PSCH. A buyout would, were to take place this offseason, for the Flames (according to PuckPedia): - over the remainder of, absent a buyout, his contract, create cap space, during the season(s) of: -- 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2028-29: US$2,595,238 -- 2026-27, 2027-28 and 2029-30: US$95,238 -- 2030-31: US$4,595,238 - effective July 2031 to June 2036, a PSCH of US$904,762, by then likely a negligible amount considering a salary cap likely of US$90 million or more Does any Canuck fan want a Huberdeau-type contract? Zadorov no doubt is younger than Huberdeau but neither is getting any younger.

Zadorov is a tough choice the team most likely gonna regret in the future. This playoffs Zadorov probably worth 5M but you should not expect of him being consistent 3rd D in the regular season he kinda pushed himself to the limit. You can try to push him to stay motivated by embracing his leadership role and giving him an “A” but I still don’t believe he can be a consistent 3rd D playing heavy minutes. I understand people why people love him.

He was a big reason we did as well as we did. We can't replace him and can see this team return to the mushy middle. But the team shot its load last year. Gave up the house. Not a lot of trade bait. Not enough money.. I can see this team totally fall apart. No draft picks , players walk away after not signing.. Very shallow talent pool in the minors.. And the only tradeable pieces are already playing.. Mind you the admin pulls a rabbit out of their hats I will be very surprised. We seem in a worse position than last year.. Be a good time to become religious.

The other alternative re. Mikheyev is to trade him with salary retention, which wouldn't necessarily involve a sweetener. Perhaps 40-50%?

I know this sounds stupid, but I don't think Mikheyev went into the season healthy, and it's very hard to recover given the schedule. I really want to see if one whole summer where he is not doing recovery for most of it might reignite him.
