Stepping up production of Earth's solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric energy systems will create endless prosperity for centuries to come. We will still need to collect fossil fuels, but for a far greater purpose than money. We will send every molecule we can on a 6 month journey through space, to start pumping carbon into the atmosphere of mars, heating it up to allow plants to thrive and convert enough into oxygen, so we can start terraforming our second home. That is the future of humanity.

Solexx X And at what cost? global.handelsblatt.com/companies-markets/electricity-prices-in-a-free-fall-478046 From this article in Mar, Germans consumers pay the equivalent of $0.28/kWh (other sources put it closer to $0.35) which is near the highest in the world. To get all their solar capacity installed, they pay a fixed, high price, which happens to be over 5x the market price for electricity from conventional sources. There are more ways to go green than solar. Use methods that make sense for your specific area, which may not be the same as other areas.

Solexx X False dilemmas--false dilemmas everywhere. - Going green does not require tripling or quadrupling electricity prices. - Reducing warming can be accomplished in numerous ways besides using solar. - Warming, even severe warming, will not result in extinction of humans. In fact, Canada will be a much better place for humans with more warming. And finally, posting articles about "It IS warming" assumes you think I deny there's warming. I don't. Use solar power where it makes sense. Don't use it where it doesn't make sense. Build wind turbines where it makes sense. Don't build wind turbines where it doesn't make sense. How does any of that imply a denial of warming or not promoting renewables?

On the face of it geo-thermal energy seems plausible. All energy production works on the basis of using heat to turn water into steam which then turns turbines and creates electrical current. At the center of Earth is an almost infinite source of heat; so you just drill down into the Earth where there is enough heat to turn water into steam; the only bi-product is water vapor. Though such technology should not be used in areas that are geologically unstable. I mean people a lot smarter then myself probably have looked into this but it sounds simple enough.

By christ you can talk some shit ! "All energy production works on the basis of using heat to turn water into steam which then turns turbines and creates electrical current" utter fucking bullshit There are : wind turbines gas turbines diesel generators hydro generators tidal power photovoltaic solar systems that not not use heat to generate steam. That is only what I came up with off the top of my head in a minute or two.

Maybe besides creating wind turbines, they should use kites, as they are significantly more effiecient in producing energy. Another t\source of energy that should be taken into account is thorium-powered nuclear reactors, as they cannot meltdown and are therefore extremely safe.

+sandor szabados Multi-billion dollar debts, like Abengoa in Spain, which is about to go bankrupt and default on its 20 Bn euros owed to the governemnts of Spain, the U.S., among many others. Debt, more 'taxes', 'fees' to the everyday consumer, and the loss of good-paying jobs in Canadian industry. How can you convince people to pay for renewables when natural gas and coal-derivates are so much cheaper? Here in Ontario, windfarm-derived energy is already subsidized (ie, paid for by the taxpayer), yet we still pay the highest energy rates in all of North America.
@sandorski56
@sandorski56 8 жыл бұрын
***** Are you suggesting that Debt is the result of Clean Energy? That Spain's debt is because of Clean Energy? Are Fossil Fuels Free or the Power Plants that use them Free? What about Smog and other pollutants caused by the burning of Fossil Fuels, do they have no Cost? We are Subsidizing Fossil Fuel use already.

Spain's debt is not because of clean energy. Abengoa's debt is though, because that's the business they are in, renewable solar energy. Billion-dollar windfarm projects here in Ontario certainly contributed to our debt.

Strange that they didn't mention the Candu reactors which generate 16% of Canada's electricity. They do that in Ontario which is one of the few places in the world to eliminate coal, not newsworthy? I would love to hear how Vancouver is going to give up using natural gas for heat and hot water by 2050, hell I'd love to hear how they're going to slow down the increase! The province just equipped the ferries to burn natural gas. The energy storage with balloons in the lake would be a good idea in many places, but not in a country covered with hydroelectric dams that can be setup for pumped storage just by adding the pump. The Quest Carbon Capture and Storage Project at Scotford has the capacity to capture approximately one-third of the CO2 emissions, I don't think that capturing a little and releasing a lot is something to celebrate.

When push comes to shove - and it will, make no mistake - nations will have to reduce their energy consumption. EVs will go a long way down this road with their higher efficiencies, but other ways must be found to reduce electricity demand. The only winner will be the planet, but then where else can we and our descendents live?

How is a photovoltaic cell created? It is HEAVILY dependent on fossil fuels. Every single step of the production of solar photovoltaic power systems-solar energy-requires the use of fossil fuels, for carbon reductants, for smelting silicon from ore, for providing heat and power for the manufacturing process, for the transport of materials across nations and continents, for construction and installation. The only truly renewable materials consumed in solar photovoltaic power systems production, you know what they are? Trees, torn down and obtained from the burning of vast areas of tropical rainforest, mainly in the Amazon, for creating charcoal-carbon-which is needed for extracting silicon. Now add to this the mineral resources and fossil fuels necessary for constructing factories, processing equipment and maintenance of the solar energy infrastructure! And at the end of this process, you know how long a solar panel last? Maybe twenty years. You know how long a solar battery lasts? Five, maybe ten years maximum. You think in five, ten, fifteen year this cell and this battery have balanced out all the CO2 that was generated to manufacture them?

@Naiemaa
@Naiemaa 6 жыл бұрын
unteroffizier in fact solar doesn’t need to be massive, you can completely power a whole country by having local solar with batteries (houses roof tops, factories etc...) You do Not need a massive installation if you don’t have a place for it. Apart from that I’d like to know what countries are too small to have solar farms ? I can only think of the Vatican 🇻🇦!
@701983
@701983 6 жыл бұрын
@Naiemaa: You can't power a developed country only with solar from roof tops. This might suffice for the current demand of electricity in some countries, but never for the whole energy demand (substitute oil, coal, natural gas). Nevertheless you are right, there is almost no country where the demand of space would be a serious problem. Maybe interesting: thesolutionsproject.org/why-clean-energy/

The final point, that it's not just up to one country but falls to us all to take responsibility for solving the climate problem, is why the best clean energy technology must be shared across borders. Doing this also removes excuses from countries enriching uranium for civil purposes, and thereby contributes to preventing the development of fission weapons.
