Yes, please, more Goldie May videos! I am a user of Goldie May, and one feature I like about the Subway Map is that you can click to compare the dates and places of multiple people in the family at the same time. For example, you may come across an ancestor who shows 16 children in the family. You suspect that not all the children listed belong to the parents. By looking at the Subway Map and selecting to see the entire family at once, you can immediately see if there is a child who was not born or has not lived in the same places as other members of the family. If a child's Subway Map lines do not match up to others in the family, this would indicate that the child has probably been added to the family by mistake. This Goldie May feature saves a ton of time since you don't have to look at each family member's facts and timeline individually to compare them. The Subway Map is a great visual to immediately see discrepancies and misinformation on the family tree.

Thanks so much. In a future video, I used Goldie May but I didn't have success. The fault was my own, so I'm hoping to have Richard back on to explain the tools he has that would have fixed my problem. I hope you'll find the two videos interesting.

I discovered the Goldie May app about a year ago, but haven't used it that much because the initial demo video from Goldie May didn't explain in depth how one used it. Recently Richard at Goldie May has been putting out more KZbin content which has helped me to understand better how to actually use Goldie May. Like you, I hate doing research logs, but Goldie May is a real life saver for those of us who don't like the tedium of logging our research! I appreciate your efforts to help those of us who wish to use Goldie May to understand how it can be used and what we have to do to get the most out of it! More Goldie May presentations will be appreciated.

Perhaps. Additional videos would likely first cover the tools they already have. They have also released the Subway Map feature to work with Ancestry as well as those two websites at the same time. I think we could all learn from that.

There is another app out there that you may or may not know about. It is called ORA (for Online Repository Assistant). It also is a Chrome (and other web browsers, too) extension. It is developed by John Cardinal. I like it because in FamilySearch or Ancestry (and other sites, as well), one can indicate with symbols that one has looked at a hint, and whether that hint was relevant, not relevant, or a possibility. Also one can easily use the ORA extension to capture data from the hint's page and paste it in a document (or for a jpg file, in the "properties" of that file under "Details". If you do know about the Online Repostory Assistant, I would appreciate some videos about it, because I don't use all of its features and capabilities because it has more depth than just the features I have talked about and use.
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing this insight. I will look into and see if it makes genealogy research simpler or not. If you'll notice, I don't do videos about Evernote because that's just putting more of my research in another location rather than keeping things contained in as few tools as possible. Thanks for the heads up.

This drives me crazy. Example No. 1: When I went to 1810 Census, Ancestry etc says my ancestors lived in St. George Hundred, New Castle, Delaware. However, a couple pages before their names, the location changed *in the middle of the page* to Appoquinimink Hundred, New Castle, Delaware, another location. No matter what I do, I cannot change it so others know what I do. So I see it wrong everywhere.

@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
It's useful in helping you identify errors in your family tree. For instance, my grandfather Sherman Lewis Brown has a child that was born away from where the family typically lived. Did they move for that short period of time OR is that a mistake? The more zig zagging that happens in the subway map, the more potential errors there are in our family tree. There are even more features with subway maps for merging and comparing information between FamilySearch and Ancestry that I wasn't able to show in this video. I might cover them in future videos.

@@FamilyHistoryFanatics even if you have thousands of people in your family data, it doesn't require a graphing program to quickly find anomalies. Time is better spent doing research than playing with an app that won't reveal anything that isn't obvious. The core of the issue is that there's too much erroneous data online and people copy it to their files without any follow up research. I've been doing this for over twenty-five years, and weeding out the garbage takes up more time than it should. This software isn't going to help with this issue, and it won't get people to do solid research. They'll probably just make assumptions to get their anomalies to fit.
