for object dying you just dye the object as a whole, not really much to it, different fabrics and threads etc. all respond differently so small tests should be done first to better control the finished product

and re: dying in in general, it can be done hot or cold, for cold you just have a big dye bath, which can just be in a trash can, just wash the piece, then submerge into the bath for x amount of time, take out, rinse, repeat if necessary, depending on the dye might need a fixative afterwards, and usually you wash it once or twice to remove excess dye, its really less mystical than brands make it sound

In LA there are a ton of rag houses, when you donate clothing most of it ends up in a rag house, basically huge warehouses with boxes and bins full of donations/vintage, most of this will get sent to other countries and sold by the bundle for resale, but you can also pick through it yourself or buy bulk, in his case he likely does the picking, these warehouses are where most vintage buyers source because of the sheer quantity of pieces available, driving from goodwill to goodwill isn't sustainable, and for the more high end stuff there are flea markets, tons of sites, just have to be constantly on the hunt

how do you guys avoid falling victim to trendy clothing? i feel like all 3 of you are truly your own selves and don't really seem to be swept up by trends, but how do you react when you see stuff you like (like carhartt, salomon, or even rick) be grouped in as a "fad" by some? there's been times where i've bought some clothing/sneakers that i'm really into and passionate about, only to a month or so later see someone call it out as "just a trend/fad", supposedly, and it just bums me out sometimes

As long as you’re wearing stuff you truly love, trends don’t really matter. Trends will come and go within a couple years and if you just stick true to yourself, then what others are wearing shouldn’t impact you. It takes time to develop your own style so don’t be too afraid of buying into trends. Sometimes it’s a great way to discover something you like which you would’ve otherwise not have payed attention too. If you do buy in to trends make sure it’s something that’s true to you.

worth noting the brands and style these guys are into is still very much an archetype, its like the amalgamation of all the trends that arose from SZ/SF from like the last 10+ years but yeah, otherwise what square said, you know how many times rick carhartt and salomon have trended by now? shit moves so fast these days, just wear what you like and try to filter out the social media noise, figure out your own "personal" style and you'll spend a lot less time looking at clothes and more time wearing them
