No chemicals, no chain, cassette or rear mech to clean out and lube up. The futures wet, the futures just water!!

It will be interesting to see how the bearing seals hold up to water ingress.

Where about are you up north ? like to have a look at the Nicolai in the flesh , I have the simplon mgu. Love not having to mess about cleaning the drive train.

Hi, I'm not Ooop't North, I'm in Herefordshire but originally from Kirkham, in between Preston and Blackpool but with Yorkshire blood (Best of both worlds 👍) I was about to pull the trigger on a Simplon, was waiting for the shop in Glasgow to open then read that Pinion were partnering with other brands so I hung back then soon after, this thing was announced 😍 Was a bit unsure that there was no range extender but I reckon I'll be fine with the 960 when I do my multi-day rides 👍 Its a gorgeous piece of kit, proper work of German engineering art 😍😍👌 How are you getting on with the Simplon? And yes, no bloody faffing cleaning a chuffin chain and nothing to break off in the middle of nowhere!

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer Used to do a lot of work over at Ribby Hall village near Kirkham. Unfortunately my bike has had a fault, The MGU came up with an electrical fault, PCB error. Love E-bikes jumped on it straight away, unfortunately the communication with FIT was a bit slow going back and forth with emails until I got in touch with Pinion. They have sent a new MGU , and I'm waiting for it to be fitted. But while I did have the bike, it was great. 500 miles in 5 weeks for me, iv managed 47miles with 1300m of climbing with the 960 battery in 4 hours, that would of taken me all day on the old normally aspirated bike ! one other thing I did notice, and that was that the belt tensioner does get caught on the rocks. Iv made a stainless steel bash guard to cover the bottom of the motor and pull . really like the look of your bike and was thinking about trying to get one, but there wasn't anyone nearby, even though Glasgow isn't close !

@@Johngott1971 Sorry to hear about the fault but nice to know Pinion sent a new MGU. Who's going to fit it for you? I have sent a few emails to FIT while waiting for the bike to arrive asking about batteries but never got a reply. I like big rides, the Nicolai is replacing my Wild FS M10 as the adventure bike which is a great bike, especially with the range extender kit and spare batteries, I love it but its just the chain and derailleur which is the problem, had enough of all that crap so its good to get some battery info. Got some big rides planned next year and hope to do my birthday ride again, the alternative Traws Eryri. Drivetrain issues and a deep bog incident stopped me from reaching Conwy in April 😖 May even do the Welsh C2C again, one or the other plus other stuff. I got my bike direct from Nicolai and you can also order one through GeoMetron bikes in Monmouth (Ganarew, Monmouth NP25 3SR), they are a partner with Nicolai and GeoMetron bikes are basically Nicolai bikes with a different logo. My bike has a different style of tensioner to the Simplon. Early days yet but I always put protection on my bikes. I use a piece of old tyre to protect the down tube and some to protect the motor from rock strikes, which does happen a lot. My Wild took a rock strike which made a minor chip on the side of the motor casing so from then on, it was full protection and the Nic is no different. I've managed to get something sorted and fitted so looking forward to the next ride to see how it goes - V1 or....? 😂

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer The bike is up in Glasgow as I type. It has to be fitted by them and then be matched to the controller. It also looks like FIT have had some issues with the controllers, and if that fails, the bike has to go back to have the controller matched to the motor. I have also emailed FIT with no reply from them. I did call in to see the guys down at GeoMetron after I had got the simplon, I may get a second bike, money to burn and you can't take it with you, Plus I do think that the Nicolia is lovely bit of kit. Im with you on the drive train crap, I converted my Haibike to run with a Roholoff hub and Bosch motor a few years ago, but not a match to the all in one of the MGU.

@Johngott1971 Money to burn indeed Sir! 😳 I've often thought about the feasibility of doing the belt drive mod to my Rise, so feel free to pass on any tips 👍 Where are you anyway?
@tonyyates201215 күн бұрын
Might want to study up on belt maintenance, you do need to be quite fastidious with the belt to get the maximum life out of it.

@@tonyyates2012 Nope, that's it, wash and visual check 👍

I'm only suggesting reading up on your belt tensioner setting, keeping an eye on your teeth and noting any sprocket wear. Sprockets and belts can wear prematurely if you have tension problems.
@tonyyates201215 күн бұрын
There's actually an app for the belt tensioner, the app can tell if your tensions correct by asking you to twang the belt, it can tell by the sound if its correct. I'm not even joking, it's available on Android or IOS.
@OldNorthern_eMTBer15 күн бұрын
@tonyyates2012 Yeah, I know about the app and the 'twang' test but it's something I won't be rushing to do just yet.
