Here's a fun fact regarding the '74 Challenger, it was the last year for this generation of the Challenger because of the oil crisis so Dodge just assembled many models using parts that would belong to higher models. One of the more famous '74 Challengers is a burgundy one with a black vinyl top that belonged to Bruce Hudson, a 22 year old deckhand who tragically passed away on board the infamous Columbia steamer, Edmund Fitzgerald which sank on November 10th, 1975. After his death, his mother Ruth drove it before selling it, History Mustery Man discovered it a few years ago and it's in bone stock condition, in the ownership of a guy who later met and reunited Ruth with the car before she passed away from old age. Great video so far Mitch!

I’m three years into restoring a ’74 Challenger. You can find a ton of aftermarket parts built to OEM specs. It’s good to see another one getting ready for the road. Likely a 318 in there now but if it is a 340 (couldn’t tell) I’d try to rebuild the motor if it’s salvageable. A 340 six pack is a great setup.
@notanumberafreeman6903
@notanumberafreeman6903 3 ай бұрын
It's a 2bbl carburetor on that engine, so it's a 318 car. 1974 was the first year for the 360 engine, 1973 the last for the 340.
@samragsdale2301
@samragsdale2301 2 ай бұрын
I'd agree, that looks like a 318. I used to have an '80 1/2 that had the more or less the same motor in it. What's the big one they had back then, like a 426 Hemi?
@pscartozzi
@pscartozzi Ай бұрын
@@samragsdale2301 426 Hemi would have had the most HP @425 but the biggest motor they put in was the 440 @390 HP. Both those numbers were fudged as they low balled them to help buyers get insurance. 6-pack 440's routinely dyno'd well over 410 HP.

❤❤❤ To make a statement, I used to thoroughly detail my own car, no matter the original shape of the car. Our neighbor would make fun saying that I was going to wash the paint off the car. I thought it was funny too. I have always had pride in my vehicles. If you take care of your own car or truck, it will take care of you. The only other person that I would trust detailing my truck, would be this man. I love watching this channel because it's how I have always detailed my vehicles. I have not been kind to my body and it takes me so much longer than it used to, but heck not like I'm busy anymore. Great job on this beauty!!!

This is so interesting because so far I only watched your videos on cars that were completely dirtied up by careless use (smoking, work debris, mud etc) and it fascinates me how different the wear is on a car that was just set aside and forgotten. It totally makes sense, but while this car looked terrible at first glance it seems like most of the dirt is the kind that is rather easy to remove. It's not ground into the carpet and upholstery or smeared across every surface. The Escape from the most recent video from the outside looks much less dire but actually was so much more disgusting.

I have a 72 Cuda and a 68 Dart and have used parts from both places' good quality stuff. Hope they have a great time with the Challenger it came out beautiful!

I found a 1974 Ford Torino around 2006 on ebay. The car was sitting in a field in Riverside CA. I bought it, took it home and cleaned it up also. It's now a Starsky and Hutch replica!!!!❤

To add an edge to the tire rim cleaning you can go in there with a special drill bit and strip it down to its previous metal shine. But that may go on the side of auto body rather than detailing. Anyway, love this show.

On the seats- I used to own a 1972 Buick Skylark that had bench seats made out of the same material. Sadly, the older it got, the more the seats began to split along those seams. In this case, it was probably just age that did most of that.

My Dad had a 75 Buick 4 door hardtop-blue with a white interior. I could never get that interior clean, but the car made it to 250,000 miles with the original engine never being apart. Still ran good too.

That car just screams for a full mechanical restoration. It doesn't need any cosmetic work beyond new front seat covers, new shifter handle, and re-chrome those wheels. What a stunning example of a fifty year old car.

The challenger comes baack to life. This muscle car from the 70s really got some love from Mitch. The exterior came out great. I thought there might be more permanent damage. Even clay barring the paint. Wow, you did this classic a solid. I have watched the new yard geek video a cpuple of times. Bravo!!! Have a great weekend Mitch. ❤

Those vinyl seats of the 70's never lasted, that's quite typical deterioration for that age. They dry and lose their flexibility then crack into smaller pieces. Dodge did offer leather seats as an option but hardly any were equipped with them. Whist the leather would have lasted, the foam underneath would be tired out and crumbling. Although on the plus side, you would only need to replace the foam as opposed to both foam and vinyl.
